Here in West Cork as in areas all over Ireland we have had incidences of widespread air pollution, usually made worse by atmospherics, in the months where burning is allowed. We get whole hillsides burning when it isn't allowed but no one is brought to book for this. Reasons given include there being no evidence to properly charge a person of lighting it. The farmers claim they have to burn to clear land to ensure they get maximum payment under the CAP
Something is wrong here. Our countryside is being destroyed along with anything that lives there. There must be other methods of control of such as cutting or grazing without resorting to burning or herbicides. . This is a Biodiversity Pollution and Climate Emergency. There needs to be some urgent action on this at government and Euopean level. No-one is taking any responsibility for this. This must chanhe. I want to see urgent action to protect our environment and our health.
This is damaging to the environment. People with Asthma, for example, suffer greatly. This has to stop. There must be a less medieval method of doing this.
Detrimental to plants birds insects small mammals also produce fume detrimental to climate and respiratory health
I have seen an increase in fires burning across the peninsulars over the recent years,
There is no thought given to the wildlife destroyed whatsoever ever.
Most of the burning takes place at the height of the bird nesting period.
I used to live in Kerry and experiencedat close hand the awfulness of gorse fires and the amount of damage they do to wildlife . We really need to protect our wildlife and our land especially in these days of climate emergency.
My local biodiversity and house are ever under threat by gorse fires
I abhore the destruction of nature and feel that governments need to take the effects of these actions on our planet far more seriously. Laws should be passed and enforced to make sure that we protect the environment fully. I have worked for many years with an environmental organisation - worldwide opportunities on organic farms - and now in my retirement I feel the time has come for me to take more action.
I care about nature.
Because nature is important for me
I’ve been opposing burning for 2 decades
Because a gorse fire recently nearly burned my house down for a second time and i have seen first hand how devastating it is to the birds and wildlife.
Utter destruction of the environment by uneducated
The eco systems are being destroyed for pure profit.
Huge areas of habitat are being raped if life ongoing for commercial gain. More invasive species tend to survive better
I'm on the Cork side of the border, but we have this problem this side as well
I live in an area that's destroyed every year by fires
There is too much devastation to Ireland wildlife. It is not necessary to burn gorse. It should be illegal to cause deliberate fires. Especially in light of the significant scale of the damage at Killarney national Park. People are starting to enjoy the outdoors and aome go wild camping. If these fires remain legal it won't be long before there is a loss to human life.
The law should be strengthened if needed and at the very least be strongly enforced. Respect for the natural environment must be paramount.
Because of the awful ecological harm done by these fires and the danger to human lives and property
Imlive in an area that is made hell by the farmers burning the hills in the early part of the year
This practice is hugely damaging to wildlife, contributes to erosion and pollutes the air for extended periods. It is barbaric and should not be awarded by EU funds for the farmers who do it...
Gorse burning and cutting of hedges and trees during bird and animal breeding season causes destruction of wildlife habitat and is unnecessary. It's an outdated and lazy practice that puts stress on the fire services and Gardi.
because humans do not have the right to have such a negative impact on the planet - we are destroying habitat and our natural world at a pace
This practice is a danger to people and property, destructive of wildlife habitat — and unnecessary. Gorse can be managed by grazing instead.
With global warming and extinction of species, we need more vegetation, not less. Why not consider planting trees on those bare and sad hills )which are also very vulnerable to erosion without sufficient vegetation)?
Damaging for flora and fauna
Medio ambiente
The mountains where I live have massive fires every year. It is destroying the nesting birds. The burnt areas aren't even used for agriculture, it is sheer vandalism. It is also costly for the fire service who are regularly called out.
