UvA should be a safe place to study for all
As an NB student of the UvA, this petition affects me directly, and I want to help the cause.
There should be no debate about trans or non-binary people. Clearly they exist, and they deserve rights and comfort like anybody else. Especially at UvA they should be able to have a safe space that they might not have at home or at work. The pride flag on our buildings should not signify only acceptance of gay people, but of the entire LGBTQ+ (and that includes non-binary) community.
UvA should also have more gender neutral bathrooms and should stop using gendered language near the bathrooms, e.g. "lady bin". It's old fashioned and hurtful.
Non-binaire vrienden
Because all queer people should feel safe at uni
The University should be a safe space for all students, no matter their identities!
I am a non-binary UvA student and I would appreaciate a greater awareness regarding this gender identity and not perpetrating hate speech
I’m non-binary and attend the UvA
Because it is a human right
I teach at UvA
I'm nonbinary
Non-binary people exist and their identity has to be respected.
I am surprised at this statement of Laurens. Non-binary people should be supported.
My brother studies at the Uva and I as his Non-binary sibling I find it important to support this petition.
I work at the UvA and it needs to be a safe space for alls rodents and staff
I'm non binary myself and, even if I wasn't, I value truth, kindness, science, and a belief in an inclusive, varied, and social future.
Because it is ridiculous that someone who would so blatantly disregard scientific evidence and popular wisdom and mistake their own failures to understand for society's problem could cause so much discomfort and monopolize attention. UvA should take a stand and guarantee a safe space for critical but not revisionist thought.
The denial of the existence of non-binary people who, empirically speaking, clearly do exist (both on the level of the materiality of bodies, where the variation of sex cannot be captured well by two strict categories, as well on the level of social identification) is very worrisome for an academic institution. It is both a form of denial of existing human beings (which leads to dehumanization) and it is a form of science denial.
I am a non-binary lecturer at UvA myself and I believe that acts of bigotry do not deserve a place at a scientific institution.
I stand with everyone that identifies as non-binary and the statements expressed by Buijs are unacceptable for an institution that considers itself inclusive and safe.
