I do not think it is right to move forward with such a high increase for new employees without a comparable increase in pay rate for senior employees. The salary should reflect the abilities that employees bring to the table and not should not be time bound.

Equal pay for equal work and positions is an ideological cornerstone in Norway, at least when seniority is not an issue (as is true for PhD-candidates, and this case in particular). Universities should adhere to this ideal, and raise the salaries set by old contracts according to the new standards.

As a PhD employeed på UiT I off course wish to support this petition since all PhDs employed in Norway should receive the same treatment and payment. If the salary changes for new employees, it should be applied retroactively for "senior" PhDs.

Aside from the fact that I am directly affected, it is basically unfair to have such a high increase with NO adjustment to the salary of the exsisting PhDs. Either you're a newly recruited PhD or have been a PhD for some time, you have the same responsibility and job. If the funders are able (and agreed) to pay more for the newly recruited PhD then why not adjusting the salary of the existing PhDs? (:
Moreover from what I've observed, most PhDs produce a number of publication which technically raises the credibility and rating of their institutions. Therefore PhD students play an important role as well in their own institutions.
