text of the petition

The 'University of Sydney" is holding the skeleton of a Budjiti ancestor hostage in the "J.L. Shellshear Museum collection". Her skeleton has been caged and probed since being stolen from Country 56 years ago. Local Budjiti people have requested that their ancestor be returned to her burial site on Country but the university "authorities" have refused to comply.
Budjiti community are now organising in protest for their ancestor to be returned to rest on Country, and against the violation of her removal and the disrespect shown toward Budjiti sovereignty by the university establishment.

The support of students and staff within the university as well as community members outside of the institution is needed to put pressure on those maintaining the colonial legacy of the theft and hoarding of ancestral remains.
