We, the undersigned residents of the Hamilton Street and surrounding areas, request that traffic calming measures recently installed along Hamilton Street, are increased.
Regverdiging
In 2019, there was a Speed Display Sign installed along the short strip of road of Hamilton Street. The area in particular of concern is the road running from Mill Hill taxis to the junction adjacent to Hollin Bridge Street.
These SDS work by detecting an approaching vehicle and displays its speed to the driver. It has been found that displaying the vehicle's speed makes most drivers reduce their speed. The sign also records details of its activations such as time, date, and speed of the vehicle. The message board itself can be switched off, turning the SDS into data recording mode. Data can be downloaded from the memory and used for analysis purposes.
The speeds of late, have exceeded 30 mph. This is 20 mph zone, and recorded speeds have reached the high 30s, 40s, 50s and even 60s on some occasions.
We ask that extra measures are taken into consideration. Increase the SDS to a speed camera instead and build a chicane or a speed bump.
