  • The production process for shuttlecocks made using such natural materials as geese feathers requires a large amount of water to wash, sterilise, and bleach the feathers.
  • Cruelty toward geese and ducks in the plucking process and the living conditions are unknown.
  • The shuttles are non-recyclable, reusable or repairable so have a huge impact on the environment as each feather will last one game and then go to wastelands.
  • The escalating popularity of this sport has led to millions of feather shuttlecocks being produced annually, exacerbating the negative ecological effects caused by transportation emissions from global shipping.

Begründung

The use of live geese/duck feathers in badminton is a cruel and outdated practice that must be addressed with urgency. Feather plucking causes extreme pain and suffering to these animals, and as ethical and responsible members of society. It is unacceptable that in this day and age, we are still using such unethical products to compete at a competitive level. The badminton community must take action and demand an immediate shift towards more humane and eco-friendly alternatives to feather shuttlecocks
