Elon Musk is a loser
!@#$! Elon Musk
X is a platform of hate and misinformation. No place for academics or educational insiders.
Social media leverages participation for profit and by continuing to use platforms that are spreading disinformation and undermining democratic values, universities are complicit in the outcomes. We have an ethical responsibility to use our presence for positive change.
X and FB are no longer civilised places where a respectful discussion can be had.
Elon Musk is a clear danger to democracy all over the world and he is using X to push extreme right wing agenda and disinformation.
It is important for us to have access to truthful information sources.
La démocratie est importante pour le bien commun, et elle est menacée.
The rise in disinformation, in the false excuse of free speech, undermines genuine and open debate and sways public opinion against science and towards populist political agendas that threaten our very existence.
Democracy
Because social media is the quickest platform of disinformation - and a system owned by someone who wants to coerce and impose their ideals on the world is not a suitable platform for respectful, intelligent debate.
Shouldn't support oligarchy when there are truly free options available.
Twitter has become a hive of misinformation and spam, and has become very challenging for people from minorities to participate in. Institutions are meant to be looking out for their stakeholders, incl. students, staff, casuals, etc. all of which form a broadband of minorities. Twitter is a toxic environment for them now, and by continuing their presence on that platform, institutions are at best exclusionary and worse causing harm to their stakeholders choosing to stay there to engage with them.
Ensure neutral and balanced media landscape, and not support fascist billionaire oligarchs.
Twitter/X has become a platform that encourages hate, misogyny, xenophobia, bigotry and extremism.
X (Twitter) has become a toxic social media platform that gives voice to Neo-Nazi bigotry and all sorts of vile racist commentary, including anti-Semitic comments.
We should be distancing ourselves from and denouncing literal fascists as much as possible.
Social media are critical for universities, both to engage directly their communities but also to facilitate exchange between people and expert staff.
As putative champions of free speech and thought, universities should not rely on, or be beholden to, media companies that host disinformation or slant discourse towards particular political or social channels.

X/Twitter and other social-media platforms represent the opposite of the values of Australian tertiary education institutions
Twitter is a known large false information source. It's now being used to influence German elections with bots and Elon's influence. Most scientists I know are on Bluesky anyway
