Petition is addressed to: Snowy Monaro Regional Council

A development application is seeking to have a truck/freight depot on Lots 307 and 308, DP750535, Carlaminda Road, Cooma. This land is currently prime rural land, Zone RU1, and surrounded by small to medium-sized rural properties that actively farm the country with livestock.

Reason

Residents of Carlaminda Road are calling for your support to oppose this development.

The proposal is for 38 truck + trailer movements per day - creating noise, dust, traffic hazards, road deterioration, and visual impact on the rural setting. This land is rural land - not industrial!

Council voted on 18 December 2025 to not allow the truck/freight depot to proceed. The Councillors voted 6:5 against the development.

A rescission motion has been lodged by three Councillors to have the development proposal presented again on 19 February 2026.

By signing this petition, you will tell Council that you also oppose this development.

Thank you for your support, Barbara Menchin, Cooma

Why people sign

I am often staying in this area, and value the areas natural heritage of the country and wildlife. This does not correlate with trucks frequently using these types of roads.

We don’t need all these trucks on our road destroying it and our council will not maintain it or fix it

The road is not in condition to cope with any more truck than we already have. It’s too narrow, in too poor condition and has too much local traffic of people who live on Carlaminda Rd and Mount Forest Rd. We already struggle to pass other vehicles, trucks and cars alike due to the narrow road, then add in fog, rain, wildlife, push bikes and runners, People walking back from Monbeef. It’s too dangerous to expect our local residents, including young people learning to drive to deal with such a large proposal of trucks that will hog the road, not share it

1. The road itself is not up to that kind of traffic
2. The fog in winter in that stretch of Carlaminda Road is very very thick and visibility is very poor
3. I and my family travel this road daily, and it’s already dangerous with how narrow the road is

I have been staying and working on a friends farm along Carlaminda Rd for 20 years and that it should remain rural to ensure the ongoing production of quality wool and prime lamb. A truck depot in a rural zoned area is unthinkable - increased potential of accidents on a rural road, noise, fuel pollutants, heavy vehicle traffic, road degradation, dust impacting crops and agricultural activities.
