Petition is addressed to: Clare and Gilbert Valleys Council

On 15th September 2025, Mayor Allen Aughey confirmed that the elected council members had resolved to terminate the Riverton School Community Library Agreement. This decision was made without consultation with the community. Will impact Riverton District High School student access to important resources. will decrease equitable access to library services for the wider Riverton community, particularly those unable to trave to alternative library services. Underestimates the significance of the Riverton Library in supporting early years literacy and adult digital literacy, and it role as a cornerstone of local life for over 40 years.

Why people sign

I have worked in this library as TRT and it is an amazing resource for the community. It is used both by the school and the community. How can you have a school without a library.

My 96yr old mother still lives at home in Riverton, she has limited ability to be out & about. Reading is a big joy to her.
Please save this important well used asset!

Libraries support all ages in the community, and provide a hub for people to connect, study, learn and relax. A local library is integral to its community.

I understand how important this facility is to the High School and to the district community. My three children attended school there and I worked there. I know just how much work and financial assistance from the District Council went into setting up this wonderful facility. Elderly people used it consistently not only to find appropriate books etc but for a place to chat and communicate with like minded people. Young people used it to assist their young families and accustom them to the values importance and enjoyment of ‘reading’ and attaining information .
There will always be a place in this world for Books even though you might argue that technology has taken over.
