The current listed marginal income tax rates are deliberately posted in a confusing and incorrect manner.
Tax-free personal allowance must be included in the marginal rates and not listed as a separate item. For example, this means that there is a tax rate between 100000 and 125140 that is 60%.
Again, there is not good reason for the personal rate allowance tapering to be listed as a separate item. It is done to deliverately mislead the public. It is divisive and exclusionary. We should all strive toward the use of plain language and this include the descriptions of tax rules.

Grunnen til

There is no good reason for the personal rate allowance tapering to be listed as a separate item. It is done to deliverately mislead the public. It is divisive and exclusionary. We should all strive toward the use of plain language and this include the descriptions of tax rules.
The current page hides the fact that the current marginal tax rates are non-monotonic and regressive. Merely having this conversation involves convincing people that the rate is in fact 60% in one band and then 40% in another higher band. It should be as simple as looking at the front page https://www.gov.uk/income-tax-rates to see that yes, the marginal tax rate is indeed non-monotonic and regressive. Inclusivity involves eliminate deliberate and unnecessary complexity.
Note that *no legal wording needs to change*. This is simply about the table on effective marginal tax rates at the top of the main page that everyone goes to to check the marginal rates.
