Petition addressed to: Sunshine Coast Council
With recent increases in Sunshine Coast Council rates, we should expect the council to offer services that genuinely benefit us as ratepayers. We expect waste and resource management subsidies to be similar to most other similar LGAs in Queensland. In the Brisbane City Council area for example, ratepayers and tenants are provided with 10 free dump vouchers a year. BCC also offers annual kerbside hard rubbish collection for all households.
These initiatives ease cost-of-living pressures for ratepayers, encourage clean and tidy public and private spaces, and discourage illegal dumping on public land.
We expect Sunshine Coast Council to deliver a commensurate increase in services for the extra millions they are taking in increased rates.
Reason
With back-to-back rate hikes over the last two years totalling a greater than 20% increase, we as ratepayers expect to see some increase in services on the Sunshine Coast. Especially for those of us living away from the coastal glitter strip, it is easy to feel that our rapidly expanding rates notices do little to enhance our quality of life or our natural and built environments. Waste and resource subsidies would at least bring us to parity with other similar Queensland LGAs.

We pay high rates and get charged at the dump. We look after our own roadside verge which is Council land and yet SC Council has specific rules about what you can grow on the verge even though we are expected to maintain it and it's our frontage. Enough is enough. We are being taken for every last dollar and they don't provide the services the Sunshine Coast deserves.

We are not receiving value for our rates.
How does my land values increase 100% in 6 months, and it just so happens we’re now in another category, but the minimum rate for each category is note advised in the rates information flyer, so how does my land we know what this means for us $$
