Upgrade Phillips Park: Bring an Outdoor Gym to the Old Playground Site

We, the undersigned residents and community members, call upon the Council to immediately fulfill its commitment to construct and install an outdoor gym facility at Philip Park.

Health and Well-being: Public outdoor gyms provide accessible, free fitness opportunities for residents of all ages and income levels. Promoting physical activity is vital for our community’s mental and physical health.

Outdoor gyms are a good way for those that can't afford gym costs, gets people outside and a good way to utilise the space

We have lived in Lidcombe for more than 20 years, and for many of those years the community has repeatedly raised concerns about the condition of Phillips Park. The bathrooms have been run down for a long time, lighting in and around the park and along the Nicholas Street stretch is minimal, and does not cover more areas, and the fencing on that side has been broken or run down for years. The gym equipment on the Nicholas Street side is rusty and unsafe, especially for children, and the uneven ground beneath it creates an additional hazard. Many of the pathways have also become trip hazards. Overall, this area has consistently been overlooked.

Two years ago, we were pleased to see Stage 1 of the upgrade completed. It brought colour, life, and more families back into the playground. However, with Stage 2 now completely ignored from the plan due to shifting priorities, the community feels let down. This has been discussions amongst many household in lidcombe, school playground and seeing the community in shopping center has brought the same conversation up many times.

Council made a commitment to deliver all three stages of the upgrade, and following through on that promise is important for rebuilding trust and demonstrating honesty to the residents of Lidcombe. Completing the full upgrade would show that our community is valued and that long‑standing issues will not continue to ignored.
