Why? This is important for all residents of this area. When will we understand that the continuing destruction of everything that makes this community the beautiful place it is will serve no one but the owners/investors of this mine. The numerous animal, bird and plants in this area cannot easily be replaced. The peace and livability of residents within this area will be forever changed. How did this expansion and any opposition to it have been effectively hidden from the public until so “late in the game” this, in itself, is despicable. I sincerely ask that any decision about this expansion will, at the very least, be put to the residents of this town who it will most affect. I sincerely hope that the people who will make any decision will keep in mind just what will be destroyed should this expansion go ahead. I sincerely ask that these people ask themselves “would I want this in MY BACKYARD.

I have seen how the current gravel pit behind as affected the area I live in. Large rocks are constantly falling off gravel trucks and onto the road, a lot of dust and dirt is caused by the trucks, the truck drivers drive fast and often do not come to a come to a complete stop at the stop sign or 4-way stop at the bottom of the hill. I didn’t buy a house in Kawkawa Lake to live near a gravel pit. I want a safe place for my boys to ride their bikes,

The operation is too close to a residential area, it will lower property values and harm the local quality of life. Heavy trucks around the pit would increase road wear and pose safety risks for residents. The extraction process would permanently alter the landscape and negatively affect the local wildlife. Residents of Hope would also face long-term health risks from water contamination, noise pollution, dust exposure and the disruption of daily routines. Ultimately, a gravel pit would undermine the community's well-being, peace, and sustainability. This needs to be stopped.

Anyone who cares about this town and its future should understand the importance of our natural beauty. This pit mine is already a blight on our town’s landscape, an ugly eyesore. We all lose just so a small few can momentarily gain.

Environmental, land stability, costs incurred by the tax payers. The rights of the surrounding homeowners:
the right to the enjoyment & peace of living inside & outside of their homes while not breathing in extreme dust pollution from industrial activity in a residential area.
A graveyard is situated on the road where these huge trucks will be continuously roaring by families peacefully congregating for burial services & also honoring & visiting their loved ones that are buried & cremated.

It is time to be looking forward to preserving our forested areas instead of always looking at them for profit. There is too much money at play in this venture and certain concerns are easily paid away. I don't even have faith left in the consultation process with First Nations. As a native person not from this territory, I know for a fact that even after consultation, input is ignored often times or the decision and processes have already been put into place even before the consultation. I have strong concerns for what this venture is going to bring to an area that is so close to so-called Crown land (unceded territories). The noise alone disrupts wildlife habitats in the area and I still have strong concerns regarding contamination to water sources due to seeping and containment of this seepage.

We, the residents of our community, strongly oppose the proposed expansion of the existing gravel pit. This expansion would lead to the removal of countless trees, significantly disrupting our local ecosystem and diminishing the natural beauty that defines our town. Furthermore, the increase in industrial activity would disturb the peace of our neighborhood with additional noise, dust, and traffic. Preserving the environmental integrity and tranquility of our community is essential for maintaining the quality of life that we cherish. We urge the relevant authorities to reject this expansion proposal and seek alternatives that do not compromise our town's well-being.

I live blocks away from this site. It is visible and I can hear it. We bought this home 6 years ago, noise, dust, volume of both sound and traffic were minimal. We chose this community and neighborhood as it was clean, safe, quiet and beautiful. Our kids could safely travel kawkawa lake road (the only road connecting our neighborhood to the rest of Hope) to school and the community. It has now become a highway filled with dump trucks that loose debris, travel at high speeds and generally not safe for residential traffic. We do not have sidewalks just the shoulder of what used to be a small neighborhood street, there are also no crosswalks to access the pedestrian side of the bridge over the river. . It has become a highway with heavy commercial traffic. It’s dangerous, damages our roads (the water level is very high so the ground moves easily) and leaves debris everywhere. It’s dangerous for pedestrians and cyclists on the only route connecting this part of town to Hope.

My main concern is increased traffic. However I have additional concerns over the huge eyesore it has and will become in the middle of a residential neighborhood. The added noise of the rock work, heavy machinery and air/noise pollution it will create is unacceptable for a residential area surrounded by homes and well established recreation/tourism areas. I use the trail network up there extensively as a mountain biker, hiker and father with my family. To allow a massive expansion of this mine in this area is wildly irresponsible. It is a few hundred feet from homes!

I’m not asking for it to be closed, but to allow this expansion is a huge mistake, it will cause irreparable damage to our community and the impact will be immense with the increase in activity both at the site itself and the heavy commercial traffic accessing the site.

Please stop this

I am worried about the impact to our residential community and the safety of the roads . Dump trucks are constantly breaking road laws, drilvling dangerously and not covering their loads

I am a former Hope resident who currently owns property in Hope.We lived across from the current gravel pit & the noise & destruction was problematic 35 yrs ago! Our complaints fell on deaf ears THEN. The destruction, noise & air pollution will not only destroy the peace of the surronding properties, but those in the distance, also. There is a rock face that causes an echo. Trust me, we woke up to the noise & fell asleep to the noise -for years.
A BIG NO to this project!!

I walk Kawkawa Lake Road at least twice a day, every day of the week as I do not drive!
When the trucks were running during the pipeline expansion it was a dangerous walk! The trucks would drive by too quickly, rocks would fall out even if the tarps were on, and it was so dusty and noisy. I cannot seeing where this expansion would be any different.
Do NOT permit this expansion

This will not only destroy tourism to this area and become a huge hazard to all those that walk and drive Kawkawa Lake Rd as well as having a negative impact on the values of homes in this area and on the infrastructure in that area.
There are plenty of other areas where this development can go and not have such a negative impact on the District of Hope

Both my parents are buried in the cemetery, and I have valued the peace and quiet of that place when I have visited their graves. At the same time I have found the existing gravel pit an unpleasant distraction, especially when trucks thunder past the cemetery.

The gravel pit was at a good location when it was first started in the 1960s, as it was isolated. However, Hope has changed and grown since then. Houses and neighbourhoods surround the pit now. It makes no sense to have the pit continue. They have NOT been a good neighbour.

As an aboriginal from Sto:lo territory & a member of the Seabird Island Band. This still is inside my territory. I so I feel my vote also counts.

Given the applicant had so little regard for his quota by such a large amount we can only anticipate him disregarding any of the rules or regulations laid down for him
The dust, noise & traffic of the quarry does not belong in a residential area

This area is zoned residential for a reason, the town of Hope! What is the purpose of zoning if residents can't count on the municipality to uphold it or our bylaws? It's literally RIGHT BESIDE the town! Mining a gravel pit IN TOWN??? and transporting ON Kawkawa Lake Road???

We are a small town and this area is already causing major issues with safety on the roads and for residents health. This is not an industrial area, there is residences and that's not okay.

The amount of truck traffic on that road is already excessive . Who is paying for the lifespan of that road being reduced? Is this company repaving this ? Additionally there is a facility for disabled adults on same road with a number of them walking on that road to get to and from , there are no curbs or walkways . These trucks are ripping by them every day. At the very least this company should be using a different entrance and not travelling through residential, pretty sure they can afford it!

I used to love visiting Hope but the amount of dump trucks travelling in and out of the Kakawa Lake area is disturbing. I have friends and family that live in Hope and some who even live along Keytle Valley road where their homes and peace are directly affected by the heavy flow of dump trucks travelling directly in front of their homes all day long. I would rather see this once lovely farm land be turned into a subdivision to assist with our continuous housing crisis, NOT a massive gravel pit that in which the owners have purposely ignored and went against wild life and habitat reports. I have witnessed the damage the runoff has done to all of the homes down hill of this gravel pit. The pit owners don’t care about anything but profit and owners and visitors are sick of this blatant disregard for home owners property values and safety.

The project is within close proximity to our natural resources. Kawkawa lake and Coquihalla river. Will impede on surrounding neighborhoods with traffic, noise, dust and way of living. Environmentally and geographically destruction. Please stop this plan from going forward. Even as it exists it should be shut down and has affected all residents on kettle valley road. So their proven history in the area is cause for great alarm in an expansion and continuance. Thank you. Bon

I am not in favor of the Gravel Pit expansion and am adding my voice to the petition. I am hoping the provincial decision makers are truly listening to the people that live here in Hope and respect their right to quality of life for all residents of Hope.

I enjoy spending time at Kawkawa Lake and the surrounding area. The risk of rock slides, noise and congestion, will deter from spending time and money in the Hope area.

Hope is beautiful. As the existing pit is today, it diminishes the natural beauty of Hope. Depending on where you are, there is added dust, heavy vehicle traffic and noise. It brings down the desire to live in certain areas. In fact, it makes certain areas not even pleasant to walk in or visit. The pit is currently visible from the highway. Hope deserves better than an expansion of this blemish on our beauty, nature and visitor appeal.

Health and safety of residents.
Safety of the road way.
Property value decline.
Fact that the roadway being utilized is a quiet residential street that is the main access for many residnets, tourism and recreation destinations (Kawkawa Lake, hiking trails, Othello tunnels). The dust, rocks and danger posed by this volume of traffic on a small residential road can only have lasting negative effects.

I live 45 minutes from Hope, but all of my shopping and most of my recreation is done in Hope. It's my second home and I'm concerned about the negative impact this will have on the rare beauty of nature that currently exists in Hope, as well as the many species of wildlife that we have the privilege of coexisting with. We cannot take advantage of things many other towns have lost. There will be no going back!
