I am writing as a British Columbian living with severe ADHD and an executive functioning disorder. Although I receive Persons with Disabilities (PWD) support, I have been told that home support services are only available to seniors aged 65 and older.
This leaves adults like me without any practical assistance, even though executive functioning disabilities significantly affect daily living. I do not require physical care. What I need is help with organization, planning, and maintaining a safe and functional home environment. These supports would prevent crisis, improve stability, and allow me to continue living independently in my rural community.
There are many adults - especially women - who are falling through this same gap. We are too young for seniors’ services, yet our disabilities are not recognized in the current support structure.
I am asking your ministry to review this issue and consider expanding support options for adults with executive functioning disabilities. Even small changes would make a meaningful difference in the lives of many British Columbians.
