Petition is addressed to: Port Phillip council

We, the undersigned residents of Howe parade port Melbourne, request the City of Port Phillip Council to protect existing residents’ access to on-street parking by issuing resident permit parking.

The Barak Beacon site is being redeveloped by the Victorian Labor Government into a large high-density housing complex. This project has already caused severe parking disruption across Garden City, with construction workers occupying most available street spaces and creating congestion and access issues for long-term residents from 5am.

The problem will become far worse when the redevelopment is completed. Hundreds of new residents will compete for already limited street parking, with the site severely lacking in parking and the situation will be compounded by the Fishermans Bend urban renewal area, which will bring further high-density development and traffic into the same precinct.

Additionally, the new school on Williamstown rd will add daily traffic and parking pressure on Garden City’s residential streets, an area never designed to accommodate this level of demand.

We therefore request that the Council implement residential parking permits across both sides of Howe Parade.

Why people sign

Because I am concerned about the number of vehicles that will be parked in the area. The number of parking spots for the residents of the new development is grossly inadequate.

The on-street parking situation is completely inadequate for existing residents due to current construction workers occupying parking spaces & anticipated congestion in future due to the high density redevelopment project at Barrak / Beacon. Parking permits are needed for the residents of Howe Pde.

Ensure suitable parking facilities are available to the Howe parade residents.

After driving my son to school I cannot find parking anywhere close to home. Adding unnecessary mousing stress to an already hectic life, and ultimately delaying me getting to the city where I work (as I get to the city by other means, not by car).

Street parking in Howe Parade is becoming a problem and will only get worse when Barak beacon is occupied and the primary school in Williamstown Road opens. Residential parking permits are required to protect the local community. Council needs to action this now!
