Petitsioon on adresseeritud: Hawkesbury City Council

Hawkesbury City Council is proposing a Special Rate Variation (SRV)—a planned increase in residential rates over the next three years of 40%. The purpose of this SRV is to secure additional funding to renew, maintain, and improve essential infrastructure across the region, with a particular focus on our local road network.
Council states that the SRV will help address the backlog of road repairs, enhance long-term asset management, and ensure safer, more reliable transport routes for residents and businesses. The proposed increase is intended to support sustainable service delivery and reduce reliance on short-term fixes.

Selgitus

  • We oppose the 40% rate hike because it worsens the cost-of-living crisis for many struggling families
  • It doesn't stop Council wasting money on non-essential projects while neglecting critical infrastructure

arutelu

If council can "selloff" the water waste to Sydney Water because of their own negligence, they certainly do not need my 40% extra in rates.

vastu-argumenti veel pole.

Miks inimesed allkirjastavad

There is no good reason for it.
Costs to council should become cheaper due to Water services going to the state. There is more funding for roads due to extreme weather events.
Council should send us a priority list if they can’t provide services with this huge increase in rates.

An 11% council rate rise is nothing short of ridiculous, especially for young families already struggling with the rising cost of living. The Hawkesbury has always prided itself on being a tight-knit, family-friendly community, yet this decision shows no real support for its own people. Families are already stretched thin, juggling mortgages, childcare, and everyday expenses. Now, this hike threatens to push us out of the very community we call home. The council should be finding ways to ease the pressure on residents, not make it harder for hardworking families to stay in the Hawkesbury.

Local council needs to take accountability for previous poor business management decisions which is the agenda behind this ridiculous unfair proposed increase. Think outside the box, sell some assetts and stop asking the rate payer to bail you out!

Being a disability pensioner with a kidney transplant & Lipoedema I can't afford these increases as well as all my medications, testing & specialist appointments every month. Something will have to go if rates keep going up.
