The petition language was updated to reflect Basketball and Multi-use Courts rather than solely a basketball court to ensure alignment with the City of Hamilton’s Recreation Master Plan Implementation Strategy. According to page 86 of the plan, Dundas is identified as a community in the highest need of Basketball and Multi-use Court infrastructure.
This change also reflects the intent to bring additional recreational uses to the space, not just basketball. By emphasizing “multi-use,” the project becomes more flexible and inclusive, allowing the court to support a wider range of activities and community needs. This broader framing opens the door for other sport clubs and community groups to participate in and help co-invest in the revitalization, strengthening partnerships and increasing the likelihood of long-term success.
New petition description:
We are requesting that the former tennis courts located on school board property be revitalized into a safe and functional outdoorBasketball basketballand court.Multi-use Courts. The existing space has fallen into disrepair and is no longer serving the community. Converting it into Basketball and Multi-use Courts aligns with the City of Hamilton’s Recreation Master Plan Implementation Strategy, which identifies Dundas as a basketballcommunity courtin the highest need of such facilities.Creating these courts would provide a positive, accessible, and healthy outletoutlets for local youth while making meaningful use of an otherwise abandoned area. We ask for the support of the City of Hamilton, the school boardboard, and community partners to bring this project to life for the benefit of Dundas students and residents. This request is supported by the St. AugustinesAugustine’s Boys Basketball League and the Dundas Dynamo Basketball ClubClub.
New justification:
Local youth have spoken clearly about the need for better recreation spaces in Dundas. As one student wrote, “All I’m asking is for a full basketball court with two nets facing each other to be built so that my friends and the other kids of Dundas have a place to hoop and organize games.” Revitalizinggames.”Transforming the abandoned tennis court into aBasketball basketballand spaceMulti-use Courts directly responds to that need and aligns with the City of Hamilton’s Recreation Master Plan Implementation Strategy, which identifies Dundas as being in the highest need of Basketball and Multi-use courts (pg. 86).This project would answer that call—creatingcreate a safe, inclusive areaspace where young people can stay active, connect with friends, and build community pride. This projectIt is a simple but powerful investment in Dundas youth.
