We, the Broadcasting – Radio and Media Production and Journalism – Broadcast students at Fanshawe College, request a tuition reassessment or compensation for Winter 2026 due to the removal of access to CIXX-FM (106.9 The X), the licensed FM station promised in the program description. CIXX-FM provides essential experiential training, including licensed on-air broadcasting, regulatory compliance, station operations, sales, and live remotes training that cannot be replaced by CFRL or online platforms.
We ask Fanshawe College to provide a tuition adjustment, a formal acknowledgment of this program change, and a clear plan outlining how the lost educational value will be addressed
Reason
The removal of CIXX-FM (106.9 The X) for Winter 2026 eliminates a core, advertised component of the Broadcasting – Radio and Media Production and Journalism – Broadcast programs. Licensed FM experience is essential for building industry-ready skills, including live on-air broadcasting, CRTC compliance, traffic and logging, station operations, sales, and running live remotes. These opportunities were available to previous cohorts and directly influence employability and portfolio quality.
This change reduces the educational value students are paying full tuition for and contradicts what was promised in the official program description. Action must be taken now because Winter 2026 is approaching, and students deserve transparency, fairness, and compensation before the academic term begins.
