  • Dear Petition signers

I acknowledge receipt of your enquiry which has been passed to CPS Yorkshire & Humberside to provide a response.

As you are not directly involved in the case, I am unable to discuss any aspect of the case with you, even though certain general information is already in the public domain.

I can assist in explaining the different roles of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and the police.

The police are responsible for responding to allegations that a person has committed a crime. They will decide whether an investigation is required and how it should be conducted, although they are expected to follow all reasonable lines of enquiry. Following an investigation, the police may decide to take no further action or refer the case to the CPS for a charging decision under the statutory charging arrangements. The CPS is responsible for determining the charges in all but minor and routine cases.

Nothing more then expected from them but we will carry on prompting them.
