Petition addressed to: Community of Western Cape

I want an immediate end to raw sewage leaking into the ocean at Strand and Gordon’s Bay. Specifically, I want the City of Cape Town to permanently fix the infrastructure failures (including at the Soet River mouth) and declare a health emergency until the water is safe. No family should risk getting sick just by swimming in False Bay.

Reason

MAJOR Health concerns. There are reportedly people that have been hospitalised due to this sewage Leakages over the years.

Thank you so much for your support, Keean Smit, Somerset Wes

Why people sign

To create a healthy environment not only for human beings but all animals and plants and minerals.
This is an ongoing problem for years.
The ocean should provide enriching energy. Now we humans destroy that potential.
No more lengthy committee meetings but doers to clean the sewage as COCT employed the many ladies who clean the beaches so beautifully.

Because sewage carries dreadful pathogens , we have to make sure that the sea doesn't get polluted and surfers, swimmers and sealife is.protexcted.

I’m concerned about the health of our ocean and marine life and ourselves, for someone that swims nearly everyday has to be turned away due to pollution of sewage on a regular basis!!

To reduce the amount of sewerage reaching our ocean requires large capital investment on an ongoing basis to repair broken pipes, upgrading of existing main lines and providing acceptable ablution facilites in the informal communities. But this has to be done if the residents of the area want to continue enjoying all the activities that the ocean offers abundantly.

I've visited Strand beach for over 30 years but became very ill after swimming in the water a little over a year ago. What about our children, the piece of nature they have but unsafe to enter.
