As concerned parents and members of the Lake Macquarie community, we are deeply troubled by the proposed Bolton Quarry Rehabilitation project. Some of us have children who attend Fennell Bay Public School, which is situated near the project site. This initiative poses significant risks not only to the safety and well-being of the children who attend the school but also to the broader community and the environment in the surrounding area.

The increased traffic, noise pollution, and potential for dust and debris to affect the air quality are all factors that could create an unsafe environment for our children and the broader community for a period between 15 and 20 years. The rehabilitation project's proximity to Fennell Bay Public School raises serious questions about the potential impact on educational activities and outdoor play as well as the thriving Bush School program at the school. Disruptions caused by the project could have lasting negative effects on local wildlife and plant life, compromising the ecological balance we strive to maintain in Lake Macquarie. The quarry's rehabilitation risks jeopardising the natural beauty and biodiversity of the area, which are cherished by residents and are integral to our community's identity.

We urge Lake Macquarie City Council to take immediate action by re-evaluating the Bolton Quarry Rehabilitation project. Instead of proceeding without comprehensive community feedback, the council should initiate a transparent and inclusive process that actively considers the insights and needs of local residents, schools, and environmental experts.

By signing this petition, you are joining us in demanding a careful reassessment of the project with full consideration given to community concerns and environmental preservation. Together, we can ensure that the needs and safety of our children and environment are prioritised, protecting what truly matters to the residents of Lake Macquarie. Please add your name to support this vital cause.
