Petition addressed to: North Dumfries Township

To the Mayor and Members of Council of the Township of North Dumfries:

WE, the undersigned, respectfully petition the Township Council to take immediate, emergency action to protect Clyde residents and visitors by implementing the following safety measures without delay:

  1. The immediate installation of physical speed bumps or speed humps on critical residential roadways throughout Clyde to legally force vehicle deceleration.
  2. The implementation of all-way stop signs at all intersections within the village to disrupt high-speed through-traffic.
  3. The immediate installation of signage identifying the larger area of Clyde as a community safety zone to alert motorists of the need to slow down in our residential community.

Reason

On Monday, June 15, 2026, Nathan Smith's family, friends and the community of Clyde suffered his tragic, preventable, and heartbreaking death, due to ongoing road safety issues. Excessive speeding and inadequate traffic calming measures throughout the settlement of Clyde continue to pose an immediate, severe, and daily threat to the lives of local residents, pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists alike.

Thank you so much for your support, Kristine Duench, Cambridge

Why people sign

Nathan was a childhood friend. He was mowing his lawn, like we all do. He should not have died because teenagers were speeding and lost control of the car

For the continued safety of citizens

Nathan was a fellow colleague and respectable man who deserved better. This is to prevent future fatal incidents, may no loved one be gone too soon if the cause is avoidable

I knew Nathan from work and he died because of needless reckless speeding around there.
