Petition addressed to: City Councillor Devi Sharma
North point Blvd is a major road connecting the Aurora community at different points of intersections with Atlas Crescent, Mira Gate, Lyra Gate, Vega St, Phoenix way,Libra St,Orion Crescent, Lynx St. Etc. Expected speed limit is 50Km/hr but many of the motorists doesn’t follow it. It is really unsafe for Pedestrians to cross over the road to access the Parks and other public spaces.
Reason
We demand City of Winnipeg to introduce Pedestrian cross walks/corridors and 4 Way stop Signs at different locations of North Point Blvd to reduce the risk for pedestrians. We have only two public Parks in this highly populated region and we saw a huge rush of Children playing and crossing the roads frequently specially in Summer. So we also want a reduced posted speed limit of 30Km/hr. Although we are expecting School Zone speed limit on North Point Blvd but that would be applicable to School times only.
Several local residential routes (e.g., Alexander Avenue, Powers Street) enforce 30 km/h speed limits year-round to protect cyclists and pedestrians.
Many Citizens complained about the reckless driving of the motorists in Aurora community area on social media. Let’s make a change now. It’s an Election Season.

I have seen some near misses with children crossing the street and vehicles moving too fast. There are many individuals that speed out of the mall from Brar rd. It is getting out of hand. And following the incident where a child got hit, it’s time for a change. If this continues, it’s only a matter of time before a death occurs due to drivers negligence.
Exactly. The biggest concern is that other drivers don’t seem to care about the speed limit or their surroundings. If the limit is 50 km/h, some drivers still go much faster, and even worse, some are looking at their phones instead of the road.
With kids walking, playing, and families around the community, that can become extremely dangerous. It only takes a few seconds of distraction or speeding for something serious to happen.
Your message is really about everyone taking responsibility—slow down, put the phone away, pay attention, and respect the right of way.
