Accountability for mobility scooter riders - particularly when they cause accidents.
A regulatory registration system with number plates for identification in the event of an incident resulting in injury to a pedestrian or vehicle.
Reason
On the 3rd August I was the victim of an accident. I was driven into from behind by a powerful and speeding mobility scooter, knocked down and dragged along a service road as the rider gave no audible signal and just ploughed into me. Instead of braking as I screamed for him to stop, he accelerated and swerved his scooter further intowards me and across the road. The elderly gentleman was riding a large, powerful scooter and speeding and was also hard of hearing and seemed to display cognitive issues in being totally unable to assess the situation.
I was ambulanced to hospital with injuries and severe shock.
Without a registered number plate to identify him for the Police as a danger , nothing can be done to prosecute and ban him from riding.

I believe better regulation of mobility scooters, including appropriate insurance and road tax, is important for everyone’s safety. My friend was involved in an accident with a mobility scooter, and it highlighted the need for greater accountability and protection for both scooter users and other road users.
I have signed the petition because I believe proper regulation could help prevent accidents, ensure responsibility, and provide support when incidents do happen.
