Accessibility Statement

Status: 10.09.2025

openPetition is continuously working to make the www.openpetition.de website and the services belonging to openPetition gGmbH accessible. Our goal is to enable people with disabilities to operate and use openPetition 's digital services on an equal basis.

The basis for this is the European Accessibility Act, also known as the European Accessibility Act (EAA) - an EU directive that aims to improve the accessibility of products and services within the European Union. Unfortunately, we cannot yet cover all areas equally, but we are working on achieving an accessible website. If you use assistive technologies when visiting our website, we recommend that you use the mobile version of our website.

This digital accessibility statement applies to the openPetition websites published at https://www.openpetition.org/, https://www.openpetition.eu/, https://www.openpetition.de/, https://client.opn.vote/, https://www.opn.vote/, https://www.vetokarte.de/ and https://www.demokrative.de/.

The digital accessibility review and analysis was conducted through self-assessment, extensive testing with VoiceOver, and evaluation with Lighthouse and WAVE.

Efforts to support accessibility

openPetition is taking the following measures to ensure better accessibility:

  • There are clear goals and responsibilities for accessibility within the company.
  • There are formal methods for quality assurance of accessibility within the company.
  • The most important user flows are regularly tested with common screen readers and analysis tools.

Which areas are not yet accessible?

Despite our efforts, users may encounter some issues. Please contact us if you have encountered inaccessible content that is not yet listed below:

  • Links, form fields and buttons are sometimes not correctly labeled, which is why some assistive technologies may have difficulty recognizing them.
  • The contrast between the so-called "corporate identity color" and the background would have to be stronger, or currently requires assistive display options to ensure it is sufficient for visually impaired people.
  • PDF documents are not yet accessible.
  • Heading elements are not consistently arranged in a continuous descending order.
  • The submenu on the petition details page visible on desktop needs to be better formatted to ensure it can be easily processed by assistive technologies.

Compatibility with assistive technologies

We recommend that visitors to our website use the mobile version with the Safari or Chrome browser. The following screen readers are compatible:

  • Orca Screen Reader (Linux)
  • VoiceOver (Apple)

Technologies

The accessibility of this website depends on the following technologies to function:

  • HTML
