I’ve cheered all my youth and now I have a daughter whose been cheering since she was 5 and will be turning 12 next week. I just want to help out the cheer community because I know I would be upset with a situation like this.
My niece favorite activity
these girls deserve their own team and a coach who has cheer experience
This petition is important to me as a current cheerleader because this team is all about our tradition and the culture surrounding our community having the drill coach (a former Roosevelt cheerleader) who hasn’t coached cheer and or experienced the way Garfield Cheer is as a program is extremely frightening for me and my teammates not knowing what’s going to happen next for us because cheer and drill are two completely different sports and may I add on our seasons are during the same time having ONE coach for two different sports and two different teams on each JV and varsity will be extremely hard for ONE person to handle if anyone knows an alumni or anyone qualified. Please help our cheer team out🩷
cheer alumni! trust Jackie isn’t about cheer! THE REAL COACHING STAFF NEEDS TO BE BACK
Cheer and drill team are two different worlds and combining them doesn't add up at all , I don't see why cheer has to suffer the lack of support and end up with a drill coach who obviously doesn't understand stunts from dancing the judging is very different
SAVE GARFIELD CHEER! Dont ruin something these kids are passionate about.
I am an alumni and was a cheerleader at Garfield. I care for the safety of our athletes and will like to see the cheer program thrive under great leadership.
I am an alumni cheerleader. My cousins are alumni cheerleaders. The history of cheer at Garfield is so beautiful and runs deep. Ms Velasquez ran these programs for years and always managed to keep them separate but each on their own well deserved pedestal. The girls who came after ms Velasquez were also trained by her and continued to carry on her teachings, traditions and legacy. My hopes are that the program goes back into the hands of someone who truly values these two separate groups and knows the importance of what it means to have a “drill team” as well as a “cheer team”.
We need to support the community and help everyone receive the best choices and have equal opportunities as other schools in the district.
Cheer and drill should NOT be combined. They are completely different
Once a Garfield cheerleader and I do not trust that the drill coach will do a good job on making the team feel the same and together.
Because this means alot to the cheer people. Everyone has something they love to do. The cheer people don't want to use that. It helps their physical health, their mentality and how they do things in life. They get to do what they love with the benefits it come with. So why not support it ?
It is important to me because when I was a cheerleader I saw how the drill coach was and as an alumni I want the best for the cheer girls and there is no way that combining drill and cheer is a good idea especially by a drill coach who has no experience as a cheer coach.
We need the proper coaches for cheer
It’s important to have a dedicated individual coaching a team who they have experience working with.
Cheer and Drill are two different sports and should be treated as such. It is unfair to the cheerleaders to have their hard work minimized
The kids deserve better.
It’s important to me because cheer is important to my niece. Combining drill and cheer is not ideal. My niece enjoys the athleticism that comes with cheer and combining them will take away from that.
It’s not fair for the girls or the coaches
Because to keep the traditional sports and events alive we must they give a path to those who wanna do cheering leading as an career they also get a good source of activity and exercise to keep them active while also improving there health .
Cheer and drill are two very different sports and should remain as independent sports
Save a Girls Dream
I know the feeling of this because I was once a cheerleader
Drill team and Cheer team should NOT be combined. Drill and Cheer are two complete opposite sports. It’s like making the wrestling team combine with the football team just because the two are a contact sport.
Garfield Cheer has grown exceptionally over the years and worked hard to establish their program. Administration needs to support ALL their sporting programs not just when it’s convenient to them. Find coaches that know cheer. Find coaches that are passionate about cheer and find coaches that want to continue to build the legacy of Garfield Cheer.
This is no disrespect to the drill coach. This is just simply stating that the two are complete different sports and do not belong together.
I want my neice to experience cheer tradition as they should be experienced.
Garfield cheer has a reputation to live up to and they need a coach who is familiar with cheer and can actually teach them
Don’t let this bully take away cheer
it’s important because the cheerleaders have been there own thing for many many years and have won multiple championships and etc i think they should continue being on there own team and get their coaches back!
My niece is a cheerleader and loves their original coaches
