It is awful to see our beautiful parks being decimated. It seems like overkill, not just mitigation. Also, where do the wildlife go when their habitats are destroyed?
I am concerned about the extensive tree-cutting happening in our local parks, it is an eye-sore and unnecessary. They’re not doing fire mitigation, they’re selling it as fire mitigation. This goes beyond removing trees that pose a hazard. It's a giant mess and depressing as hell to see all of these trees down. There are significant negative impacts on wildlife and water quality. Further, removing entire sections of the forest allows the sun to heat up and dry out the understory, making it more susceptible to fire/burning. Stop it!
I use the parks on an almost daily basis. There is no need for this aggressive tree cutting. Research does not show that it will help mitigate fires
Because I like to visit Denver parks with my family
Denver Mountain Parks has not met the burden of proof required to merit the sweeping tree cutting in our parks, whose impacts will last for decades. I support evidence-based fire mitigation using best practices, but DMP has not demonstrated that they are using these methods, nor communicated adequately with concerned community members who see out neighborhood natural spaces being destroyed.
