Petition is addressed to: People who launch boats in Lake John Hay
When the city of Salem made arrangements to raise the water level 4 feet at lake John Hay they did not take in consideration on what that would due to the ramp. The rise in the water has made this ramp very shallow and a lot of the people have to wade the water in order to push their boat of their trailer. Some will start their outboards to load and unload so they don't have to wade in the waters (which is prohibited according to the rules).
Reason
The problem with wading the water in the spring is the temperature of the water. Spring is some of the best fishing for pan fish. Other problems if someone slips and injure their head in some way, they will be laying in the water. Pushing your boat off a trailer can cause a heart attack in the elderly.

Why people sign
I enjoy fishing John Hay but it has gotten hard to load and unload boats after they raised the lake.
I have fish this lake for over 30 years and was always easy to load and unload by myself and now you must back far into the water you have to use a rope or a friend to unload it and then to load it you ether have to have a friend back in or if you are by yourself you must get out in the water to get out of your truck to get out to be able to get back into your boat then the same to pull it out. In the beginning of talks about raising the lake many years ago the then mayor was going to make ramp improvements that went along with raising and I was at some meetings about it was not hear say but when they finally decided to raise it they did no improvements. They need to make it easier
Tired of having to put my entire truck in the water to load/unload my boat. & if the ramp alone isn’t bad enough the road to get there is even worse
