Petiția se adresează: Iowa Rock And Roll Music Association (IRRMA)

Craig Cronbaugh of Des Moines isn't just a longtime musician; he is an icon in our Iowa musical community. His work, talent and contributions to the Iowa (and Midwest) music scene are innumerable.

Despite his many accomplishments, there's one honor he is yet to receive: induction into the Iowa Rock And Roll Music Association Hall of Fame.

To ignore Craig's significant influence on Iowa's music landscape would be a disservice to his legacy. His decades of dedication to the industry, the artists he has inspired and his unwavering commitment to preserving the spirit of Rock and Roll makes him much-deserving of this tribute.

If you believe that Craig Cronbaugh's contributions to Rock and Roll deserves recognition, please endorse this petition. Let's give Craig the honor he deserves by signing this petition today!

motive

Craig Cronbaugh is a legendary figure in the Iowa music scene, boasting a career spanning over five decades of dedicated musicianship. His contributions extend beyond his own impressive performances to mentoring young drummers and preserving the legacy of Iowa's musical heritage.

Early Days and Local Legends: Craig's journey began in the late 1960s, playing drums throughout high school. He continued to hone his craft, performing with iconic Iowa bands like the Hardtimes, the Good, Bad, and Ugly (with Terry Lawless), Showboat (with Ron DeWitte and Don Daugherty), Nite Moves (with Don Daugherty and Mike Williams) and the Alumni.

  • Regional and National Recognition: Craig's talent transcended Iowa's borders. He toured with Artie Mentz, a renowned Elvis impersonator, performing across the Midwest, including Kentucky. He also embarked on a national tour with Nite Moves, covering a vast swathe of the United States.
  • A Legacy of Collaboration: Craig's 1979 album, "That Drummer!," is a testament to his collaborative spirit, featuring a remarkable ensemble of Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Famers including Louis Carr, Fred Walk, Ron DeWitte, Mike Sexton, Don Daugherty and Terry Lawless.
  • Showmanship and Influence: His performances with Showboat at their namesake club in Cedar Rapids became legendary, attracting a diverse array of local musicians. Countless young drummers have cited Craig as a significant influence on their careers.
  • Beyond the Beat: Craig's contributions extend beyond music. He played a crucial role in presenting a House Resolution to Jim Freeman of the Five Satins. He authored "Reaching for a Star," a book detailing his career and friendship with Frankie Laine. He also produced five music videos for renowned singer Dodie Stevens.
  • Giving Back to the Community: Craig's commitment to fostering the next generation of musicians is evident in his establishment of the "Craig Cronbaugh Drum Studies Scholarship." This annual endowment, affiliated with the Midwest All-Music Association, provides opportunities for aspiring young drummers.
  • Endorsements: This nomination is supported by a diverse range of individuals, including fellow musicians (Troy Mitchell, Tony Schmitt, Mark Lambert, Terry Lawless, Dan Boddicker, Chris Morris, Dave Schossow), renowned artists (Dodie Stevens, Jim Freeman) and fans like Mary Garland. These endorsements collectively paint a picture of a dedicated artist, a respected mentor, and a true champion of Iowa's music scene.
  • Artist Endorsement: Doug Koempel, a two-time inductee into the IRRMA Hall of Fame and a two-time inductee into the Midwest All-Music Association Hall of Fame, offers his strong support for Craig's nomination:

“Working with Craig in recent years as an advisor to the Midwest All-Music Association, I've been consistently impressed by his unwavering dedication and professionalism.

Craig's tireless efforts have resulted in thousands of dollars being donated to school music programs across Iowa, demonstrating his commitment to nurturing the next generation of musicians.

De ce oamenii semnează

Craig is a great person. He was in several local bands in the Cedar Rapids area. The Legends, the American Legands and the Nite Moves bands.

I grew up knowing Craig's family and I was always impressed with his music talents.

My name is Jeff Shuford, and my family’s story is interwoven with the heartbeat of American music. My grandfather, Jim Freeman, co-founded the iconic group The Five Satins, whose timeless anthem "In the Still of the Night" resonates through generations and earned induction into the Grammy Hall of Fame. I have had the honor of extending my grandfather’s legacy through my own endeavors—being recognized in the Congressional Record in 2024 for co-founding National Invest In Veterans Week®, becoming a celebrated TEDx speaker, being featured in prominent publications such as Rolling Stone, Entrepreneur Magazine, and Black Enterprise, and being awarded distinctions including the Visionary of the Year and the Comcast BizTech Award.

Yet, amid these significant achievements, I stand humbled by the selfless dedication of Craig Cronbaugh, whose profound contributions to music and its preservation exemplify true greatness deserving Hall of Fame induction.

Craig Cronbaugh isn’t merely a musician; he's a historian, an advocate, and a guardian of American music heritage. His celebrated 1979 album "That Drummer!" showcased an unprecedented collaboration, featuring the most extensive gathering of Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees on a single record. His artistic collaborations span legends, yet his greatest legacy may lie beyond performance, in the deep reverence and advocacy for preserving the legacy of musical pioneers.

Craig personally championed and significantly contributed to House Resolution 36, a powerful acknowledgment of my grandfather’s contributions to American music history. Through this resolution, Craig secured rightful recognition for a generation of artists, including Jim Freeman. This was more than a ceremonial gesture—it was a deeply personal act of justice, restoring dignity and spotlight to artists whose legacies risked fading into historical oversight.

Craig’s exemplary dedication has extended beyond music into heartfelt public service, directing the Legislative Information Office in Iowa until 2021, authoring impactful literature including "Reaching for a Star," chronicling his special friendship with iconic singer Frankie Laine, and educating communities through powerful presentations such as "Remembering Frankie Laine."

People who do their best and most amazing work should be given acknowledgment. My uncle has worked hard
