Petition is addressed to: Iowa Rock And Roll Music Association (IRRMA)

Craig Cronbaugh of Des Moines isn't just a longtime musician; he is an icon in our Iowa musical community. His work, talent and contributions to the Iowa (and Midwest) music scene are innumerable.

Despite his many accomplishments, there's one honor he is yet to receive: induction into the Iowa Rock And Roll Music Association Hall of Fame.

To ignore Craig's significant influence on Iowa's music landscape would be a disservice to his legacy. His decades of dedication to the industry, the artists he has inspired and his unwavering commitment to preserving the spirit of Rock and Roll makes him much-deserving of this tribute.

If you believe that Craig Cronbaugh's contributions to Rock and Roll deserves recognition, please endorse this petition. Let's give Craig the honor he deserves by signing this petition today!

Reason

Craig Cronbaugh is a legendary figure in the Iowa music scene, boasting a career spanning over five decades of dedicated musicianship. His contributions extend beyond his own impressive performances to mentoring young drummers and preserving the legacy of Iowa's musical heritage.

Early Days and Local Legends: Craig's journey began in the late 1960s, playing drums throughout high school. He continued to hone his craft, performing with iconic Iowa bands like the Hardtimes, the Good, Bad, and Ugly (with Terry Lawless), Showboat (with Ron DeWitte and Don Daugherty), Nite Moves (with Don Daugherty and Mike Williams) and the Alumni.

  • Regional and National Recognition: Craig's talent transcended Iowa's borders. He toured with Artie Mentz, a renowned Elvis impersonator, performing across the Midwest, including Kentucky. He also embarked on a national tour with Nite Moves, covering a vast swathe of the United States.
  • A Legacy of Collaboration: Craig's 1979 album, "That Drummer!," is a testament to his collaborative spirit, featuring a remarkable ensemble of Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Famers including Louis Carr, Fred Walk, Ron DeWitte, Mike Sexton, Don Daugherty and Terry Lawless.
  • Showmanship and Influence: His performances with Showboat at their namesake club in Cedar Rapids became legendary, attracting a diverse array of local musicians. Countless young drummers have cited Craig as a significant influence on their careers.
  • Beyond the Beat: Craig's contributions extend beyond music. He played a crucial role in presenting a House Resolution to Jim Freeman of the Five Satins. He authored "Reaching for a Star," a book detailing his career and friendship with Frankie Laine. He also produced five music videos for renowned singer Dodie Stevens.
  • Giving Back to the Community: Craig's commitment to fostering the next generation of musicians is evident in his establishment of the "Craig Cronbaugh Drum Studies Scholarship." This annual endowment, affiliated with the Midwest All-Music Association, provides opportunities for aspiring young drummers.
  • Endorsements: This nomination is supported by a diverse range of individuals, including fellow musicians (Troy Mitchell, Tony Schmitt, Mark Lambert, Terry Lawless, Dan Boddicker, Chris Morris, Dave Schossow), renowned artists (Dodie Stevens, Jim Freeman) and fans like Mary Garland. These endorsements collectively paint a picture of a dedicated artist, a respected mentor, and a true champion of Iowa's music scene.
  • Artist Endorsement: Doug Koempel, a two-time inductee into the IRRMA Hall of Fame and a two-time inductee into the Midwest All-Music Association Hall of Fame, offers his strong support for Craig's nomination:

“Working with Craig in recent years as an advisor to the Midwest All-Music Association, I've been consistently impressed by his unwavering dedication and professionalism.

“His meticulous attention to detail, deep respect for musical history and extensive network of influential contacts are truly remarkable. Craig's tireless efforts have resulted in thousands of dollars being donated to school music programs across Iowa, demonstrating his commitment to nurturing the next generation of musicians.

“Beyond his professional accomplishments, Craig possesses a genuine compassion and empathy that shines through in all his endeavors. I can confidently say that I have not encountered anyone more deserving of this honor than Craig Cronbaugh.” —Doug Koempel / owner, Blue Baker Music, BMI

Why people sign

I have been a lifelong friend of Craig and as such I have had a close personal knowledge of Craig's career ever since it started when we were still in high school. He has been dedicated to his craft for 50+ years and has been instrumental in getting others involved in music regardless of genre.

Craig is an amazing musician and friend. His work with the Midwest All Music Association has really helped that organization move to the next level. These are just two examples of why he should be included!
