A 3.6-megawatt, 5,000 acre utility scale solar farm is planned to be built on ranchland in Yavapai County, Arizona adjacent to an existing rural residential area. The project will also include a Lithium-Ion Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and a 500-kilovolt transmission line.
Lithium-Ion fires produce hydrogen fluoride HF, phosphorus pentafluoride (PF5) and phosphoryl fluoride (POF3). Compounds containing fluorine can also be present and can linger in soil for an extended period.

• November 2012 Flagstaff, Az: APS Elden Substation Flagstaff Facility Fire. The Root Cause Analysis also identifies a near miss in May 2012. • April 2019 Surprise Az: Four Firefighters Critically Injured in Lithium-Ion Battery Energy Storage System Explosion. The HAZMAT team noted low-lying white clouds of a gas/vapor mixture issuing from the structure and nearby components and drifting through the desert. FSRI.com
• April 2022 Chandler Az: Neighboring businesses are on alert as firefighters continue to monitor a Lithium Storage Battery Facility, A fire that has been smoldering since April 18th prompted evacuations and road closures on April 21st. Fox 10 Phoenix

The dangers associated with Battery Energy Storage Systems are well documented. I am strongly opposed to utility scale solar systems being built outside of established industrial zones and within 500 ft of residences. Join us in saying NO TO BESS!
