Urgent Appeal for Action to Address the Ongoing Genocide and Human Rights
Violations Against Hindus in Bangladesh
Subject: Urgent Appeal for Action to Address the Ongoing Human Rights
Violations Against Hindus in Bangladesh
Dear Sir/Madam,
We, the undersigned—in individual capacity and as international representatives
of Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, Christians, Jews, and other concerned individuals—write
with profound concern regarding the ongoing human rights violations
targeting the Hindu community in Bangladesh. Recent events have revealed a surge in
violence against Hindus and other religious minorities, including abductions, rapes,
forced religious conversions, desecration of Hindu temples, and the systematic
eradication of the Hindu presence in the region. This situation has created an
atmosphere of fear and despair among the Hindu population, who are being persecuted
solely because of their faith.
The Hindu community has been a vital part of Bangladesh’s heritage,
contributing immensely to its cultural and social fabric. The recent escalation in targeted
violence is not just an attack on a religious group but an assault on the principles of
diversity and inclusion that Bangladesh has historically upheld.
Our Requests:
Immediate Protection of Hindu Communities: We urge the government of
Bangladesh to take immediate and effective measures to protect Hindu communities
across the country, particularly in regions where they are most vulnerable. This
protection should extend to temples, other places of worship, and the homes and
businesses of Hindu citizens.
Justice for Victims:
We call for a thorough and transparent investigation into all incidents of violence
against Hindus and other religious minorities. It is imperative that the perpetrators of
these heinous acts be brought to justice, and that the rule of law is upheld to prevent
future atrocities.
Restoration and Compensation:
We demand that the government of Bangladesh take full responsibility for the
failure to protect its citizens and ensure that all temples, other places of worship,
commercial, and residential properties that were vandalized or destroyed are restored to
their original condition. Adequate compensation must be provided to those who have
suffered losses, as a means of acknowledging the government’s role in their protection.
Promotion of Interfaith Harmony:
We request that the government actively promote initiatives that encourage
interfaith dialogue and understanding. Programs aimed at fostering mutual respect
among all religious communities should be prioritized to rebuild trust and harmony
within the nation.
Support for Victims:
We ask that the government provide comprehensive support to those affected by
the violence, including access to legal aid, medical care, and rehabilitation services.
This support is crucial for helping victims rebuild their lives and communities.
We believe that Bangladesh, as a nation with a rich tradition of pluralism and
tolerance, has the capacity and responsibility to address this crisis and restore the
confidence of its Hindu citizens in their safety and future. We stand in solidarity with the
Hindu community in Bangladesh and urge you to convey these urgent concerns to your
government.
We trust that you will give this appeal the immediate attention it requires and take
the necessary steps to protect the Hindu community from further harm and injustice.
Thank you for your attention to this critical matter.
Sincerely,
(Sanjoy Saha)
