Petition addressed to: Department of Housing

We want the department of housing to "halt" the housing development in Dobsonville for a number of reasons. We had our Community Development Planning (CDP) and put down a couple of projects which are a priority in our area.

  1. Improve our road infrastructure, there is too much congestion in our area . There was a project that was earmarked to build a road where the department intends to build houses. Building more houses in our area will exacerbate the traffic congestion.
  2. Will worsen the issue of electricity, in which investment should be put on improving the infrastructure. Currently, most of the street lights are not working.
  3. We have water throttling issues in our area, maintenance and repair of the water infrastructure is critical. With the new development of houses, it will create more strain.
  4. Our roads need to be retarred, there are potholes in almost every street.
  5. Our community hall is dilapidated

As a community, we appreciate the issue of human settlement - unfortunately its an issue our government will not resolve by building houses everywhere in areas where residents are already crammed for space.

Reason

  1. There was no consultation/or communication with the affected residents of Dobsonville with regards to the project.
  2. We do not have visibility of the plans for the project
  3. Environmental study relating to the area/or space where the department intends to build houses. As the area earmarked for development is a wetland
Thank you so much for your support, Dobsonville - Ward 48 Residents, Johannesburg

News

  • Good evening Residents,
We are making progress on our quest to "halt" the Department of Housing/Human Settlement in building houses in our neighborhood without proper consultation and environmental study.

We are targeting a 1000 signatures, so our demand is taken serious. We need to start thinking of projects we need the government to prioritize in our neighborhood/townships. We have been part of the Community Development Planning (CDP) , have shared our priority project with them and to date (4 years later) we still do not have any development.
Continue to share with your Neighbour's, friends and family to support the fight and sign the petition.

Why people sign

Because I'm currently renting and I would like to have my own as I've been residing at Dobsonville for more than 2 decades.

Is to update my details

It is important because I'm part and parcel of the Dobsonville community.

This is to show solidarity and patrionage... and to support my community in oppossing the implimantation of the housing project that is proposed by Government

We, the undersigned residents, raise concerns about the proposed development in our area.

Our priority is to protect the value, safety, and security of our homes. Current road infrastructure is already under strain, and additional housing will increase traffic congestion, safety risks, and limit emergency access.

There are also ongoing electricity and water supply challenges. Further development will place additional pressure on these services, leading to more frequent disruptions and impacting residents’ safety and security.

We request that infrastructure, including roads, electricity, and water systems, be properly upgraded before any development proceeds.

Thank you for your consideration.
