Gedultsrivier and Rocklands road repairs and maintanence

I have signed this petition because the condition of our roads has become a serious concern, and I believe urgent and ongoing attention is needed.

It is important to recognise that this is not only a problem with our gravel roads. Many of the tarred roads in and around our area are also deteriorating badly, despite being heavily used. We have a considerable amount of heavy traffic travelling through these roads — including trucks transporting chickens and feed, construction vehicles and other commercial and logistics vehicles. The sheer volume and weight of this traffic places significant pressure on the road infrastructure.

When regular maintenance is not carried out, the situation becomes even worse. Heavy traffic, combined with storms and rain, quickly turns cracks, potholes and damaged road edges into much larger failures. Eventually, some sections are no longer a matter of simply filling potholes or grading the road — they require proper reconstruction.

This is having a very real impact on residents. Our personal vehicles are being damaged at considerable cost, while access for ambulances, mobile clinics, police, security services and school transport is being compromised. It also affects local businesses and the broader economy of the area.

What concerns me most is that much of this damage could potentially be reduced through proper, preventative and regular road maintenance, rather than waiting until roads become dangerous or completely impassable before action is taken.

We understand that maintaining an extensive road network is a major responsibility, but the various communities in Rocklands, and the surrounding areas deserve infrastructure that is safe, accessible and properly maintained.

I have signed because I believe this is about more than potholes — it is about safe access, emergency services, economic activity and the basic quality of life of the people who live here. We need a sustainable maintenance plan and meaningful action, not temporary fixes once the damage has already become severe.
