Petition addressed to: Effingham Secondary School

We are calling on Effingham Secondary School to consider reintroducing Computer Applications Technology (CAT) and Information Technology (IT) as subjects. These subjects were previously offered and provided learners with valuable skills related to computers, digital systems, and technology. We believe that bringing CAT and IT back would greatly benefit current and future learners by expanding subject choices and aligning education with modern needs.

Reason

Technology is a fundamental part of today’s world and plays a major role in education, careers, and everyday life. Subjects like CAT and IT help learners develop essential skills such as computer literacy, problem-solving, logical thinking, and basic coding. These skills are increasingly expected by universities and employers across many fields, not only in technology-related careers.
Reintroducing CAT and IT would better prepare learners for tertiary education, improve digital competence, and ensure that students are not disadvantaged in a rapidly advancing, technology-driven society. It would also give learners the opportunity to discover interests and talents in computing at an early stage, helping them make more informed career choices in the future.

Thank you so much for your support, Aryan Singh, Durban
