Petition addressed to: Bank of Montreal CEO

We, the undersigned residents, customers, and supporters of Verona, ask BMO to reconsider this closure and ensure that our community continues to have access to essential banking services.

We respectfully request that BMO:

  1. Pause the planned closure of the Verona branch.
  2. Conduct a full community impact assessment.
  3. Explore alternatives such as reduced hours or shared-service options rather than a full closure.
  4. Meet with Verona residents and business owners to discuss possible solutions.

Reason

The planned closure of the BMO branch in Verona, Ontario will remove the only in-person banking option for many residents. Seniors, local businesses, and residents without reliable transportation will be disproportionately affected:

  • Nearest alternative branch is 40 km away
  • Seniors and mobility-limited residents rely on in-person banking
  • Local businesses need cash handling and deposits
  • Loss of branch weakens the local economy

“This petition complements an in-person petition currently circulating in Verona.”

Thank you so much for your support, David Love, Godfrey

Why people sign

I do all my banking in Verona both personally and as the treasurer of the Verona Pentecostal Church. If bank closes I will have to drive to Kingston (30 Minutes) to deposit the weekly donations.

The Verona branch is very important to the residents. Many of the customer's are retired or elderly and do not travel very far not to mention driving to kingston to do there banking is not an option. Also, many residents don't drive or have access to a vehicle.
The closure would be an inconvenience to the local businesses as well.

I'm 80 plus years old and it is extremely difficult to drive to Kingston and stand in long lines for banking ..
