I am creating this petition in hopes of introducing a recycling system into all classrooms throughout Macleans College. I feel as though this would help improve the school as we waste so many materials that could be reused for a better purpose instead of being dumped. In Macleans we dump close to 60 kg of waste per day and this is constantly rising, if we factored in that up to 80% of all waste can be recycled that takes down the dumping amount that our school does to 12kg per day across the whole school, that is 48kgs being recyled and reused. This is a huge change and an amazing number that we as a community should be proud of. But we can’t be proud of it yet, because we don’t recycle anything so our dumping is still just as high.
Reason
If you sign this petition it would greatly help towards convincing the school to agree to such a thing and if they do agree I will then work myself towards creating this system and getting it integrated into our school life. With your help we could create school roles and duties related to the idea of environmental safety and protection, we could add recycling bins into every classroom, and we could set up a pickup system all throughout the whole school.

Why people sign
As a member of the Kaitaiki group at Macleans College and also personally interested in waste recycling, I believe that the school is doing nothing or very little to solve the waste issues. The Kaitiaki group is also trying to implement waste recycling and composting. Still, it's taking too long due to some problems and the school's restrictive policies due to what has happened in past with yellow bins.
