The Panmure Community Action Group is petitioning the Auckland Council, Maungakiekie-Tamaki Local Board and Councillor Josephine Bartley to ensure the retention of the Public Reserve land at 1-3 Kings Road, Panmure, as a public car park for the benefit of the businesses, customers, clients, local schools and local residents of the Panmure Town Centre.

It is our belief that the loss of this car park will severely undermine the economic viability of all businesses at the east end of the Panmure Town Centre by making it increasingly difficult for people to access those businesses and services.

This petition is being widely circulated to businesses, their customers and others in Panmure.

Reason

Auckland Council is again attempting to sell off the vitally important Kings Road Car Park in Panmure after the original sale attempt fell over. This car park is essential for the businesses and their clients and customers at the east end of the Panmure Shopping Centre. It is also an important drop-off and pick-up point for parents and children at St Patrick's School, and the Early Childhood centre on Kings Road, as well as being an important parking area for medical centre patients - especially those with mobility and disability issues at the local medical centres. Local businesses have already put their names to this campaign and ask other Panmure locals to help them. The loss of this public car park could severely harm the economic viability of businesses in Panmure and also cause hazards for local school children who need a safe place to be dropped off and picked up by their parents.

  • Hello everyone,
    The Stop The Car Park Sale petition will be available to sign in the Panmure Library from Thursday onwards. Library staff advise that there will be a disclaimer notice alongside it stating that this is not a petition endorsed by Auckland Council, but don't be put off by that. The petition is still open to all for signatures.
    Also, Auckland Council is planning to start the tender process for the car park sale with the next few days, so time is now critical. Keep spreading the word about the car park to everyone who you think will be interested - both local residents, car park users, and any Panmure business that you go into. We have to keep the pressure on!

  • Hello everyone,
    Thanks for all the support shown so far to our online petition. The signatures have now passed the 100 mark, with another hard copy petition we have been running in tandem, now at 79 signatures. That's a great result!
    We urge everyone to keep up the momentum by continuing to spread the word about this important issue for Panmure. Whether you work in, live in or just regularly visit Panmure Town Centre, make sure that you speak to as many people as possible - particularly business owners, who be will among the first to suffer if their customers and clients can no longer get parked anywhere near their destination. Just remember - Sylvia Park Town Centre, with its 4500 parking spaces will be more than happy to take all those customers off Panmure!

I lived in Panmure for many years, & Park here when I bring my Mum to her Dr at the Pannure Medical Centre

I use to live nearby and the carpark is important for people to use as a carpark.

All parking in Panmure is vital for local businesses and communities. The area is rough in places and will only get worse with no parking to support local businesses to improve. Safety of schools/whanau and community to park and access community and local facilities in the area should be paramount. If sold, it will become an infill housing dump with no parking and create further traffic congestion and safety issues in the area. Do not sell this car park. We do not need more bulk housing. What we do need are community spaces and safety to park and access these spaces/businesses with whanau and friends in our community.

Carpark should remain for the Panmure community. It is used by the elderly for access to the Doctors and local shops, St Patrick’s School families, St Patrick’s Church. Too much infill housing is ruining Panmure and removing this carpark will only make matters worse

This car park is a public asset and used widely by school, Doctors, laboratory, dentist. It is the hub for many combined bus trips for the elderly enabling parking. Research into how it is being sold as private land would be very interesting indeed
