Petition addressed to: Derbyshire Dales District Council Planning Department

We, the undersigned, object to the proposal to build up to 250 houses on agricultural land off The Green Road, Ashbourne and ask that Derbyshire Dales District Council Planning Committee refuse the planning application (insert planning application ref)

The proposal of 250 new houses on agricultural land will add to the existing traffic problems on The Green Road and further into the town. It will have a negative effect on the environment and pollution which is already a major concern in Ashbourne. Please sign, support and share this petition.

Reason

Hallam Land Management Ltd are proposing a new housing development of up to 250 properties on agricultural land adjacent The Green Road, Ashbourne. The proposal also includes the demolition of an existing property on The Green Road to cater for access to the development.

The proposal will substantially increase vehicular traffic on The Green Road, therefore, exacerbating existing problems with traffic, especially at peak times. Pollution will also increase in the area based on an average of 1 - 2 vehicles per home, this would mean approximately an extra 400+ vehicles just from the development that will be using The Green Road and surrounding highway network. The extra vehicle movements will increase safety issues for road users and pedestrians, especially children who attend the Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School which is close to the proposal.

It will also decimate endangered wildlife, kill plants and trees during the construction stage. There is also a risk of increased flooding potential from Henmore Brook if existing nearby fields are built on. The change of land use will alter the natural flood plain and increase the probability of proposed and existing properties being affected by excess ground water.

The site is currently an important route for the annual Royal Shrovetide Football which has been played for hundreds of years and is a proud part of the Ashbourne's history. If the development is built at this location it will negatively affect the historic game by limiting the playing area within a housing estate creating ongoing access issues that may impact the game forever.

This petition will be submitted Derbyshire Dales District Council Planning Department once formal planning permission has been sought for this development.

Please object to this proposal and save important agricultural land from being built on, because once it’s gone…it’s gone!

Thank you so much for your support, Brett O'Connell, Ashbourne

Why people sign

The addition of potentially hundreds more cars using the roads in the area and attempting to travel in and out of Ashbourne on an already heavily used and congested road system would be unsafe. Proximity to schools and children would increase the risk of accidents on the roads. The roads in this area already become heavily congested. Flood risk. Destruction of good farmland and natural habitat. Dental and GP services are already stretched.

Concerns re: volume of traffic on B5035 and on the Eastern side of Ashbourne. It also spoils the countryside, breaks historic footpaths and Shrovetide play area and if the airfield is developed, why do we need the extra housing ?

I object to this proposal on the grounds that the land is of clear ecological importance. It provides habitat for species including tawny and barn owls and serves as a valuable refuge for local wildlife. The site also offers an important natural space for residents to enjoy, contributing to community wellbeing.
Furthermore, the proposed development would result in increased traffic, adding to existing congestion and pollution within the town, to the detriment of both environmental quality and public health

I have read the information from residents in the area. Unsuitable geography for proposed plan imo.

Relative lives on green road close to proposed site. We don't need anymore houses! Ashbourne is turning into a concrete !@#$!.We dont have the infrastructure. Isn't the monstrous development at the top of the hill, enough. Keep the countryside as it is please.
