Because I am a bus driver in the district, I have 3 grandsons that attend Purdy, Voyager & Minter and I have a son & daughter in law that both teach in the district. I have put all 3 of my grown children through this district & have supported it since 1993. We need to support our AMAZING teachers and students !
This shift is unfair especially to the students, as we are loosing teachers that we love. We are also extremely worried about the performing arts program at Peninsula High School. We are losing quite a few of the teachers that help with the program, which is extremely detrimental. The performing arts program is a place where students who don’t “fit in” anywhere else can belong, and removing it is unacceptable.
We believe that good principals should stay where they are appreciated! And not move just to move schools !!
I'd like to see the board be accountable and responsive to parent concern. My concern keeps growing, given upcoming RIFs and reduction of STEM in KP schools.
My kids are in Key Peninsula schools. I'm so concerned about STEM programs being removed. One of my daughter's favorite teacher was a STEM teacher and is the reason she did 3 years of band in middle school! My son LOVES the STEM program at Vaughn. He constantly talks about all the fun things they learn. Do not remove these programs, especially from the schools that need it most! How are these Littles to be interested I'm STEM fields if you take this program away? Especially from Title 1 schools where children are less privileged.
Please keep stem! My grandson has gained valuable knowledge and acquired a new skill set.
This would be a detriment to him and other children. please rethink this decision!
STEM is my son’s favorite speciality class. He loves PE but he LOVES STEM. Keep these kids interested and engaged in the things that they love!!!
Loss of the STEM program at Vaughn Elementary would be a huge disservice and disappointment to my son and many other students. Much of what my son talks about from his school day is his time in STEM and what he’s learned. Also, this educator clearly loves what he does and the involvement positively impacts the students at Vaughn.
Stem needs to stay at Vaughn!!
Equity across our District is essential. Small schools with positive school climates are essential for student success. Please listen to parents.
My children attend vaughn and we should not be forced to move elementary schools to get proper education.
Fascism has no place in our society.
I grew up on the KP, I went to Vaughn, then KPMS and graduated Peninsula High. The Key Peninsula has been home to myself and my husband for decades. We felt privileged to be able to get to send our daughters through PSD. Now, with shifting roles, lack of community connection between the district “leaders” and the schools they serve. I am outraged. The Key Peninsula Schools have always felt like a second thought to the district, Gig Harbor always seems to have better resources and funding. What we lack in those departments we made up for in building community. Taking our direct leadership rolls and playing musical chairs for the benefit of what yet remains to be officially addressed has only shaken the sense of community we have spent so long building. I am heavily involved in Vaughn as a volunteer and through the PTA, the work our teachers do with what they have is nothing short than superhuman. Vaughn was not affected this round of Principal musical chairs, however, we are loosing STEM. A amazing teacher who will be forced into a different role. Not only is our STEM teacher amazing at what and how he teaches, he is a true benefit to our community.
Vaughn is a Title 1 School, as is Minter (also losing STEM) and Evergreen. The fact that such an important aspect of my children’s education can be ripped away without even a sprinkle of effort of reasoning from our District leadership is shameful.
The fact of the matter is, we need a community leader helping build our schools in equitable ways, not taking from the underfunded, low income and struggling schools.we need someone who truly cares about what it means to raise the next generations of leadership. Not a politician. Not someone who allows teachers to be silenced or risk losing the jobs. Taking their voice away seems like a direct attack on their own freedom of speech.
Don’t steal resources from schools that truly need them, don’t bully the under privileged. Be better, do better, our kids deserve better. Shame on the district for such neglect and negligent behavior.
With a salary of roughly $272,000 how dare you take from children who need it. Rage. Outrage and disgust for the leadership that has become greedy and blind to what the true job is supposed to be. Krestin Bahr Should be ashamed of the role she leads, as well as every board member who sits beside her in support.
How are we gonna have a functionally illiterate school population and then go trying to switch out principals... It's not adding up ❤️
As a former student of psd schools ik how important it is to develop a relationship with your school administration
The teachers and staff that I LOVE, and MY SCHOOL loves are being forced out of their schools (8 so far here at Peninsula High), and though the district feels they are building community, I feel like they are ripping it apart by moving the staff that run some of the most important programs that make this school what it is and breaking connections that students have developed with these staff members, ones that make us feel safe and heard, and belong here at PHS.
Rotating principles within the school district every few years sounds like a terrible idea.
I know my daughters principal leaving is having an emotional affect on her as a Kindergartner. And I'm sure it's having a bigger impact on the kids that have been with him longer but aren't leaving the school with him. Its also not fair to the principals if they really do love their position at a specific grade level. Some people work better along side younger kids, some with older. I think its fair and seems to work out better to allow people to apply for a position they would exceed at. Not a raffle. I fear PSD will be losing some great educators due to this being implemented.
You are ripping the good out of schools and rotating the bad you will lose here . Students , staff parents , community and the like .
It affects the children, staff and community negatively.
As an educator myself, and the aunt of one of your students it is imperative to put the students first and keep what we know works!
I have two kids in the peninsula school district, we have homeschooled and sent our kids to private school. But because of the wonderful leadership of the principal, we agreed to send our children to public school. It takes a long time for a principal to learn the staff, students, and families in their school, and to make changes, all of those would be affected, while the principal was getting used to their new environment. That is not fair to staff.Students four families in the district. My family and I strongly oppose the principal rotation idea in the district. After Covid, the staff, students and families need stability and deserve a reliable environment to learn. People are utilizing many of their resources and savings to homeschool, or send their children to private school and are now just finally trusting the school district to bring their kids back. Please don't give them more of a.Reason to have to put that burden on their families.
Principals & Vice Principals need to stay where they are thriving & need to replace the ones that are not. Building relationships with the students & keeping them is most important!
Rotation of principals will only hurt the aims of a successful educational atmosphere.
A good principal gets to know their students personally and is the heartbeat of the school. Swapping them around causes unnecessary turmoil while the newly placed principal takes time to learn the school's uniqueness. There is no reason to move a well performing principal. If a principal is not performing, they should be mentored or replaced. No need to punish the students at another school by taking their principal.
Mr. hering is Minter Creek! He loves each and every child, and takes the time to also know their families, while making an everlasting bound.
Because the district should not have made this decision without the input of the community. The negative effects of this decision will be felt by our students for years to come and puts their education at risk.
Because there’s special bonds with special kids that need to keep that bond especially showing growth for these students. My daughter is one of them that has been helped personally by Mr H and if she ever had troubles in the future I know the next principle would see it she be punished instead of pushing her to the right direction.
Consistency in leadership is vital for children to thrive.
Kids and parents need stability and connection with the head of a student body and this destroys it.
I am tired of the Peninsula School District making decisions from a district level without taking into consideration the opinions of the teachers, parents, students & community , the ones who really matter. For years this district has been making decisions from behind the scenes that affect people’s lives without consideration or public notice, sometimes illegally. Court cases even being swept under the rug. Teachers disappear losing their jobs because of illegal actions of the district. Peninsula School District, at the district level, needs to be held accountable for their decisions and how it affects the wellbeing of our staff & students which has a huge impact on the culture at each school.
I went through this school district k-12 and have raised four of my own children in this district, with the last graduating this year. I used to be so proud of PSD and all it provided! I am saddened to see this district consistently disregarding anyone below the district office level. They remove support staff in the classrooms but hire themselves more support at the main office.
This petition is important to me because it goes far deeper than the change in admin. I am hoping this is the first of many stands the community will begin to take against PSD.
