1) The proposed location of this landfill is far too close to Klamath Marsh National Wildlife Refuge and is ecologically insane for all reasons cited in the petition. 2) The landfill has cultural importance for the Klamath Tribes.
3) highway 97 is a two lane highway not designed to handle the traffic which currently uses this highway. It is already far too congested by the large numbers of semi-trucks and passenger vehicle and is one of the most dangerous highways in Oregon. The vehicles used to transport garbage will only increase the danger of traveling on this highway, especially during the winter months and that will directly impact me and my family.

The Klamath Marsh is at the heart of the Klamath Tribes’ sacred lands and is home to a national wildlife refuge that provides haven to our local wildlife. It includes private and public lands that are important to county residents and visitors alike, providing recreational opportunities and a unique beauty unlike any other. Its pristine waters flow to areas far from the Marsh itself, enhancing the quality of rivers and lakes that Oregonians treasure. Establishing a landfill in this remarkable place for the processing of regional garbage would be a travesty. Some places on this earth are worth preserving for their countless intrinsic qualities and the Klamath Marsh is one of them.

The proximity of the Klamath Marsh National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) and the impact of a landfill upon the water quality upon the area is of great concern. Porous soils and runoff and seepage from such an operation are likely to cause contamination of both ground and surface waters. The relatively pristine nature of nature of the area will be adversely affected. Residential water wells, as well as water quality in the Klamath Marsh NWR are likely to suffer contamination. The placement of a landfill adjacent to a marsh, especially the Klamath Marsh, which has such spiritual significance to the Klamath Tribes, as well as anyone else who is familiar with it, is an abomination.

I have property in Mt. Scott Meadows and do not wish for a landfill in my back yard. Put a landfill in very eastern oregon where it is desolate.

My Wife is a Klamath Tribe Member.
The Family Heritage and the small amount of property that the Tribe has been able to keep compared to the original Tribal Territory is miniscule.
Yet The Tribe is improving their property.
This Landfill proposal is a Wicked attempt to go back in time to further Dominate and PunishhThe Klamath People and Ruin or Steal what The Tribe has left.

I have property very near to this proposed landfill site. Having a landfill as a near neighbor would GREATLY decrease the enjoyment of time at our property and destroy a currently beautiful view. Also, the smell would be terrible.
