I am a Charlotte community member calling for the UNC-Charlotte administration to cancel the upcoming March 25th "Triggered: From Combat to Campus" event hosted by UNCC Students Supporting Israel. IOF war criminals should not be allowed on a campus where students are supposed to feel safe and receive adequate education. By allowing this, UNCC is giving combatants and war criminals a platform to spread hate and fear across campus. As a community member, I don’t feel safe allowing this event to happen in my community.

This event violates UNC-Charlotte's Institutional Neutrality Policy, as instituted in June 2023, due to its dismissal of "ensuring that all members of the University community are treated with respect, fairness and dignity," because it will actively incite emotional, physical, and spiritual harm within Palestinian, Arab, Muslim, and other communities. Since May 2024, both the United Nations Human Rights Council and Amnesty International have concluded that the apartheid state of Israel is committing genocide and ethnic cleansing against Palestinians, with a death toll between 48,000 - 360,000 due to an inability of Palestinian governmental agencies to accurately record deaths as a result of mass bombing campaigns in civilian zones, blocking of food and medical aid from entering Gaza, and Israel's ongoing commitment to genocidal sexual, gender, and reproductive violence against Palestinians, as recently charged by the United Nations. Allowing IOF war criminals on UNCC’s campus can be equated to allowing Nazi war soldiers to come on a college campus. It is deplorable and I condemn the event.

By permitting Students Supporting Israel to hold this event, the University administration has taken "specific political stances on controversial issues" in direct violation of Institutional Neutrality. Students demand, for the safety of the student body and community, that the administration cancel this event and deny active-duty IDF soldiers the ability to be invited to campus as part of organizational endeavors.

Sincerely,
A concerned community member
