I am a Charlotte community member calling for the UNC-Charlotte administration to cancel the upcoming March 25th "Triggered: From Combat to Campus" event hosted by UNCC Students Supporting Israel. IOF war criminals should not be allowed on a campus where students are supposed to feel safe and receive adequate education. By allowing this, UNCC is giving combatants and war criminals a platform to spread hate and fear across campus. As a community member, I don’t feel safe allowing this event to happen in my community.

This event violates UNC-Charlotte's Institutional Neutrality Policy, as instituted in June 2023, due to its dismissal of "ensuring that all members of the University community are treated with respect, fairness and dignity," because it will actively incite emotional, physical, and spiritual harm within Palestinian, Arab, Muslim, and other communities. Since May 2024, both the United Nations Human Rights Council and Amnesty International have concluded that the apartheid state of Israel is committing genocide and ethnic cleansing against Palestinians, with a death toll between 48,000 - 360,000 due to an inability of Palestinian governmental agencies to accurately record deaths as a result of mass bombing campaigns in civilian zones, blocking of food and medical aid from entering Gaza, and Israel's ongoing commitment to genocidal sexual, gender, and reproductive violence against Palestinians, as recently charged by the United Nations. Allowing IOF war criminals on UNCC’s campus can be equated to allowing Nazi war soldiers to come on a college campus. It is deplorable and I condemn the event.

By permitting Students Supporting Israel to hold this event, the University administration has taken "specific political stances on controversial issues" in direct violation of Institutional Neutrality. Students demand, for the safety of the student body and community, that the administration cancel this event and deny active-duty IDF soldiers the ability to be invited to campus as part of organizational endeavors.

Sincerely,

A concerned community member

The genocide in Palestine is terrifying and horrible for all Palestinians living there, of all religions and backgrounds their livelihoods are being destroyed. It's disgusting that my school is supporting both war criminals and offenders of Palestinian lives.

Because Israel represents war crimes and genocide. Not only does it say that UNCC is okay with the war crimes being committed, but it also says that UNCC will do NOTHING to protect its Palestinian and other Muslim students. The administration simply will not listen.

Hosting members of a group that are considered war criminals across the world cannot be conducive to a productive conversation that upholds the standards this university claims to have.

This petition is important to me because it is a shame to see 2 people who have directly had a hand in the most publicized genocide of all-time, welcomed onto campuses around the United States.

No school should ever engage with, or support genocide, ethnic cleansing, or apartheid states. This is offensive and unsafe for Palestinians as well as all other minority groups that have been oppressed.

I don’t want to silence voices. I just want there be an end to the senseless violence. The historical situation is complex, but the genocide needs to stop.

Zionism is a political ideology used by the State of Israel to guarantee Jewish superiority when implementing state policies by using discriminatory structures. Many have simply called it a racist ideology. Its use has justified war crimes and crimes against humanity like apartheid for decades. UNCC supports this? They really think they can present event as a neutral stance? No. This is weak, shameful and embarrassing.

As an alum of UNC Charlotte, I am deeply disappointed to see the university offering a platform to the IDF while dramatizing and glorifying the genocide of Palestinians.

I neither want terrorists, war criminals, and murderers on my campus, nor do I want the glorification of these people to be promoted.
