Generations of East Limestone graduates, bought our house just to be in the East Limestone district. Traveling more than 25 minutes to commute to school instead of 10 minutes is completely unacceptable!
Please do not kick our children out of creekside or elhs
My children will be affected by the rezone. If we are reasoned to Elkmont, we will have to drive 29 minutes north to take our kids to school then an hour south east to Huntsville to work.
It will effect my child
My Children are 2nd generation East Limestone Indians. We take pride in our school system, always have!
But, I am SEVERELY upset at this new prospect of disrupting our children’s lives, to allow, new unknown, students to thrive in our schools that we might no longer be able to attend. They have been talking about having my children sent to ELKMONT!! That is about a 15 MILE drive from our home!! So to take my kids to school every morning, I would have to drive 15 miles to the school, AND 15 miles BACK! That’s a THIRTY mile round trip, to take them to school! Then, I could drive 20 miles to Huntsville, to go to work, AFTER, my 30 mile drive to and from their “proposed” new school… to put this in perspective: we know we, can get from Athens, to south Huntsville in 27 miles! WHAT sense does this make?? To have an HOUR long trip, to and from school everyday?? My children have already had issues in school and have tutors that I have had to hire, as is… so disrupting them from the school and routines that they have been used to, all of their lives would only COMPOUND these difficulties. I am sickened and sad about ALL of this! I am a single mother of 2.. so a 30 mile drive to and from school every day, is out of the question. If they have buses… what time would they get the kids home then? 6:00 at night? Not to mention my kids are currently attending a blue ribbon school… ELKMONT, obviously Pales in comparison… My dad bought our property 24 years ago, JUST SO, we could attend the East Limestone School District.. now, 24 years later, they are taking that right/privilege from us..
We have lived here for 20 years. I graduated From east and we bought our home in this district so so our children could go there as well. Forcing a rezoning is NOT THE ANSWER to the growing population concerns.
