Petition addressed to:
Google CEO Sundar Pichai
We greatly appreciate your time and willingness to apply to Project Yukon. We have some challenging news to share that we received over the weekend: as many may have read in public news articles, our Client has decided to stop all projects with Appen, effective March 19. This unexpected development came as a surprise, and there was no prior knowledge of the decision of the Client to terminate the relationship.
Could an online petition still overturn this decision if only enough people/raters take part?
Let´s start this petition to convince Google to continue its contract with Appen Ltd.
Reason
Thousands of remote workers around the globe, including myself, have dedicated significant time and effort into qualifying for work through Appen Ltd. We have spent months, sometimes years, learning and refining our skills to contribute effectively to the projects facilitated by this partnership. However, Google's abrupt decision to end its contract with Appen Ltd. threatens our livelihoods and disregards the commitment we've shown.
This is not just about a contract termination; it's about thousands of individuals who rely on this work for their sustenance. It's about the countless hours spent in training and development that are now at risk of being wasted. This decision doesn't only impact us as workers but also affects those who benefit from our services.
Google has always prided itself on its commitment to improving people’s lives through technology (source: Google’s mission statement). By ending this contract, they are contradicting their own values by potentially leaving thousands without a reliable source of income during an already challenging economic climate.
We urge Google to reconsider its decision and recognize the human impact behind corporate decisions. Please sign this petition if you believe in supporting remote workers worldwide whose livelihoods depend on these opportunities provided by companies like Google and Appen Ltd.
