Petition is addressed to: Mayor of Denver, Colorado Michael Johnston
We are passionate pickleball players, and like many others in Denver, CO, the Central Park Recreation center is the go-to place for this sport. However, the current solution of using slippery removable markers as court lines is not only dangerous but also negatively impacts our playing experience.
Pickleball has gained significant popularity over the years. According to the Sports & Fitness Industry Association (SFIA), there was a 21.3% increase in participation from 2019 to 2020 alone in the United States and has grown 15% for each consecutive year. This surge underscores the need for safe and adequate facilities.
Reason
The installation of permanent court lines will not only improve safety by reducing slip-and-fall incidents but also enhance our playing experience by providing clear boundaries and eliminating any disputes about whether shots are in or out.
We urge Denver Parks and Recreation Department to consider installing permanent pickleball court lines at Central Park Recreation center. This small change can make a big difference for us - passionate players who just want to enjoy our favorite sport safely.
