We, the undersigned residents and supporters of the Palmer & Phelan Community and the Historic Commercial Row, hereby petition Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Film & Entertainment (AMOFE) to reconsider and remove the current “hotspot” status on Peachtree PL NE between Cypress St NE and Peachtree St NE so we may bring back filming within our community. We believe that this restriction inhibits the potential growth, cultural enrichment, and economic benefits that filming can bring to our neighborhood.

Uzasadnienie

It has come to our attention through a location scout’s site inquiry that our street is now listed as a “hotspot” by Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Film & Entertainment (AMOFE) following an anonymous complaint. “Hotspot” is used by AMOFE to outline streets in Atlanta that are sensitive to filming and currently need a break from right of way permits. Please find the map of current Atlanta hotspots here.

Our community holds significant potential as a filming location due to its diverse landscapes, historical landmarks, and vibrant local culture. By allowing filming to resume, we can show case the beauty and uniqueness of our area to a broader audience, attracting filmmakers, tourists, and businesses alike.

Here are some reasons why we urge the removal of the of the hotspot status:

  1. Economic Boost: Filming activities stimulate local economies by creating job opportunities for residents, supporting local businesses such as restaurants, hotels, and equipment rental companies, and generating revenue through permits and location fees.
  2. Cultural Representation: Filmmakers have the power to portray our community's stories, traditions, and values on screen, preserving our heritage and fostering a sense of pride among residents.
  3. Exposure and Tourism: Film and television productions set in our community can attract tourists who wish to visit the filming locations, leading to increased foot traffic, tourism revenue, and exposure for local businesses.
  4. Community Engagement: Filming can provide opportunities for residents to participate as extras, crew members, or consultants, fostering a sense of community involvement and collaboration.
  5. Promotion of Arts and Creativity: By encouraging filming in our community, we support the arts industry and provide opportunities for aspiring filmmakers, actors, and artists to showcase their talents.

We acknowledge the importance of minimizing inconveniences to nearby residents and local businesses affected by film production and will use this as an opportunity to improve our processes through proper planning, timely communication with our neighbors, and the implementation of clear guidelines in accordance with AMOFE’s Good Neighbor Policy.

In conclusion, we believe that lifting the filming hotspot status will bring numerous benefits to our community, including economic growth, cultural enrichment, and increased visibility. We urge AMOFE to consider the positive impact of filming and to take steps to facilitate and encourage such activities in our neighborhood. We welcome input from AMOFE, Midtown Neighbors Association (MNA), and other relevant organizations to be incorporated into our processes to ensure best practices and harmonization with our neighbors.
