Petition addressed to: Rutherford County Commissioners and local authorities
Rutherford County belongs to its citizens, not a network of automated surveillance. The expansion of Flock Safety license plate readers across our roads poses a direct threat to our fundamental right to privacy, enabling continuous, warrantless location tracking of everyday residents going about their normal lives.
Mass surveillance tools like Flock cameras record where we drive, when we travel, and who we visit—storing vast amounts of location data on law-abiding citizens. Local traffic monitoring should not come at the cost of our civil liberties or hand off our community's movement history to expansive databases.
By signing this petition, you are calling on the Rutherford County Commissioners and local authorities to:
- Remove existing Flock Safety camera systems within county jurisdiction.
- Halt any future expansion or funding for automated license plate reader (ALPR) network surveillance.
- Prioritize transparent, constitutional public safety solutions that respect the Fourth Amendment rights of every resident and visitor.
Stand up for constitutional privacy in Rutherford County. Sign and share this petition today to demand an immediate end to local mass surveillance!
Reason
Protect Constitutional Rights: Continuous, automated tracking of law-abiding citizens infringes on our Fourth Amendment right to reasonable privacy and protection against warrantless surveillance.
Prevent Unchecked Data Collection: License plate cameras build comprehensive movement profiles—recording where you work, shop, worship, and socialize—storing private daily habits in expansive databases without your knowledge or explicit consent.
Preserve Local Freedom: Mass surveillance creates a climate of constant monitoring. Public safety can and should be achieved through transparent, accountable policing that respects individual liberty rather than treating every driver as a potential suspect.

Because... And I cannot understate this enough... !@#$! flock cameras. Flock cameras are a violation of our rights to unlawful search, any evidence finings recorded on the flock network are impermissible in courts in most states and at the federal level due to these findings, it's a violation of individual privacy. These cameras aren't being used for their intended purposes, they're being used to stalk, they're being used to profile, they're being used to keep tabs on the public and make unlawful arrests.
Blatant violation of rights. Flock cameras, even when used "correctly" (which they never are), gather a citizen's private information without consent for use by a corporation that is then selling that data around the world.
The idea that it might help solve a few crimes does not in any instance outweigh the massive attack on privacy and personal rights this program and these cameras represent. You need look no farther than the rampant use from police who use it to stalk exes and other citizens without cause.
The CEO has made it clear that Americans opinions are not a factor, going so far as to call those who map these cameras terrorists, while simultaneously going to extreme lengths to prevent anyone from tracking his location or vehicles.
The primary issues with Flock Safety involve mass surveillance, warrantless tracking, and civil liberties. Their automated license plate reader (ALPR) cameras log the movements of everyday drivers, creating a vast, interconnected national database that civil rights groups argue violates privacy and bypasses constitutional protections
