Petition is addressed to: Commissioner/Ga Department Transportation

Meeting with the commissioner is scheduled for 1-9-2024. . The meetings convene at 5 p.m. and are held in the Commissioners' Meeting Room (Suite 220) on the second floor of the County Administration Building, 110 East Main Street. Please have all drivers sign our petition to give to the commissioner.

As a resident of Forsyth County since 1984, I have witnessed the rapid growth and development of our community. However, the intersection at Browns Bridge and Waldrip Circle has become increasingly dangerous, presenting significant risks to both pedestrians and motorists needing to take a left turn onto Browns Bridge Rd from Waldrip Circle towards Cumming. Taking into account that this intersection also leads to a public park and a boat ramp, the volume of vehicles needing to make that left turn has continued to grow and wait times to successfully make that left turn are continuing to increase. This past summer, a vehicle that had waited to turn left onto Browns Bridge for nearly 5 minutes, finally decided to turn but did not have a clear view because of another vehicle in the turning lane for the Citgo station and that vehicle was hit directly in their side by a box truck. They ended up in the field across from the Citgo upside down.
Now, there is a newly proposed Pulte Homes Community with 2 proposed entrances on Waldrip Circle/Vanns Tavern Rd that will further increase the volume of vehicles needing to make that left turn. Especially during the early mornings and evenings. Our requested solution is the installation of a traffic light at the Browns Bridge and Waldrip Circle intersection to effectively control traffic and promote safety. Alternatively or in addition, perhaps the entrances for the new Community could be directly off of Browns Bridge Rd to mitigate the congestion and volume in this Waldrip Circle/Vanns Tavern/Browns Bridge area.

As traffic conditions continue to worsen, it is crucial to control and regulate traffic flow in these areas. Failure to address these concerns may lead to avoidable accidents or worse, loss of life. Unfortunately, for the incident reference above, we do not know how that turned out in regards to the driver of that vehicle.

Reason

By signing this petition, we can underscore the urgency of addressing this issue and move towards a safer community for all residents. Let's act now to institute change for the better. Please sign our petition to affirm your support for a traffic light installation at the Brownsbridge and Waldrip Circle intersection as well as consideration for alternative entrances to the new Pulte Homes Community.

Thank you for your support, Jennifer Lacy from Gainesville

  • Jennifer,

Thank you for taking the time to be a part of this development process by sharing your concerns. The petition with signatures is an impressive accomplishment and I will forward this to GDOT for consideration. Unfortunately, because Hwy 369 is a state road, the decision for a signal is not up to the county, but rather up to the state. I have actually identified several intersections in District 4 that I believe need safety improvements, and I will add this one to the list that I will advocate for.

Thank you again for reaching out.
