Petition addressed to: Mr. Walker and Ms. Davis
Jim Thorpe Elementary School has decided to eliminate their social worker position meaning they are trying to eliminate Ms. Engram who is the one person in the school who is there to make sure your child has a coat, food, and good mental health. Ms. Engram provides a light at the end of the tunnel for these children. A social worker is not a luxury; they are a bridge to academic success. Jim Thorpe Elementary School can NOT eliminate this position it will be detrimental for children who depend on her. Parents who face evictions, hardships, job losses, vehicle losses, and even lost loved ones have depended on Ms. Engram to be their anchor. It's our time to show our love and appreciation for Ms. Engram and be an anchor for her. It's hard to understand the role of a social worker until you need a social worker. I pray that you never have to understand what it's like to depend on one, but if you know, use your voice and stick up for her..
In the Las Vegas-Henderson metro area, nearly 1 in 3 children live in households struggling with high housing costs, leaving little left for food or medical care. We are seeing a measurable drop in economic well-being and health for our state's youth.
I do not share these statistics lightly; I share them because I was once one of those children. Growing up in the grip of poverty, I felt invisible. My stomach was often empty, and my clothes were worn thin year after year. I know how these kids feel. And I know the impact a school social worker makes on a child.

It’s important because ms. Engram is like one of the only teachers that truly care about the students. We need more teachers like her and I’d love if she were to stay.
