Petition is addressed to: Hawkesbury City Council

Hawkesbury City Council is proposing a Special Rate Variation (SRV)—a planned increase in residential rates over the next three years of 40%. The purpose of this SRV is to secure additional funding to renew, maintain, and improve essential infrastructure across the region, with a particular focus on our local road network.
Council states that the SRV will help address the backlog of road repairs, enhance long-term asset management, and ensure safer, more reliable transport routes for residents and businesses. The proposed increase is intended to support sustainable service delivery and reduce reliance on short-term fixes.

Reason

  • We oppose the 40% rate hike because it worsens the cost-of-living crisis for many struggling families
  • It doesn't stop Council wasting money on non-essential projects while neglecting critical infrastructure
Thank you for your support, David Ball, Pitt Town

Why people sign

Rates are too high now considering how few services we get for the expenses. I'm rated as residential - dirt road, no kerb or gutters, almost no maintenance???

Those of us with average were hit with large increases when council change the basis of rate calculation. This has been distorted by the increases in the land valuations by the value general caused by nearby residential developments. Our zoning has not changed and is unlikely to in the immediate future. Despite these increases in rates I am yet to see significant improvement in the services or roads.

Cost mismanaged by council for items that should have already been addressed.

Cost of living and inept spending by council to date. This is their mess to fix.
